Did you just ShartQ?

A jones fork shoop would be chef’s kiss.

What’s a cheap ass 26” jumpy bike that I can leave in Wisconsin to use at the skatepark with Roli? I don’t see myself doing much actual jumping but I’d like something other than my endpoint to carve quarter pipes on.

Not cheap cheap, but Transition has their PBJ completes on sale and they come in purp!

You could also poke around on FB Marketplace, there are always a bunch for sale around here.

That’s sw8 but like 3x what I’m looking to spend. I know nothing about dj/bmx style bikes. Would I hate something like this?

That’s more like wheelie kid style bmx than anything I’d really want to jump. Might not be as bad for actually pedaling around vs a dirt jumper.

It’s fine, a little heavy but at least the frame and fork are chromoly instead of hi-ten. Decent for the price, fine for cruising and pumping around big bowls, might feel a little big in tight transitions or tight pump tracks.

But for a bike to leave out of state and ride 2-3 times a year it’s a solid choice.

Yeah, I’m not looking to do any badass jumps or anything, just riding around the skatepark with Ro on a bike more appropriate than my H/G.
Although, he got stung by a wasp there this morning and now he says he hates the place and never wants to go back so it may be moot.

Update

Bike arrived today and she assembled it.

“I’ve been thinking about ways to make it lighter”

“I think I want tubeless tires”

I think she’s learning to dither.

The dither is contagious.

Is there a chance that it is me, and not the frame? I feel like no because there’s no way cups made of alloy would have deformed a steel head tube.

It is not the crown race because turning the fork doesn’t change the “lean”. I tried a known good fork and headset (popped these out, pressed in other ones) with same crown and still the same

Face and ream time?

Yes

Do you have a set of calipers long enough to put along the head tube? Would let you eyeball how off square they are

The front brake on my Soma feels really really stiff and has hardly any lever pull before full engagement is reached. The rear brake feels normal.
Is the front over bled?
How do I walk that back?
Just open the bleed nipple and the lever and let a few drops fall out?
Open the lever and suck up a few drops?
Do a full bleed on the system?

In the Shimano tech doc, there is a step where you close the reservoir at the top and do a gravity bleed from the caliper. I usually skip it, but it might solve your issue.

Basically, open and quickly close the caliper bleed nipple a few times. Eventually, the amount of oil that comes out will be very little.

Thanks. I’ll give that a shot.

I’ve read some say not to push hydro pistons back when system is sealed (ie do it with master cylinder open) to be kinder to the bladder etc. Is this a thing? Do the pro mech’s here care?

I don’t. Sometimes I’ll cup bleed a shimano lever after a pad change but it usually just feels fine without.

I’ll open the reservoir cap when resetting pads sometimes. As a treat.

But mainly when I find a bike that was cup bled with old pads installed.

Wait a sec, where’s the bleed nipple on this caliper? Is it the corroded ass allen screw opposite where the hose attaches?

This thing is different than other shimano calipers I’ve messed around with. I think the others all has a bleed nipple with a little rubber hat that you opened with an 8mm box wrench.

Yeah, the corroded thing is the bleed screw. You can find the bleed port if pop off the little rubber cap next to it.
