I asked him, he said no. But i’ll bug him about it. parents have asked for schaeder for their kids bikes

I want to buy a used fat tire bike for trail riding and bikepacking. The ability to singlespeed and clear a 27.5x3 tire is desireable.
The three options around me are a 2017 Karate monkey w/ rigid fork, 2017 Dragonslayer w/ rockshocks recon and 2017 Timberjack with rockshocks recon.
Does anyone have useful input about which I should choose?
All three seem fairly similar in geo except stack and reach.
I reckon I’d like to run a rigid steel fork some - maybe the 499 a/c and tapered headtube on the timberjack makes that hard?
you should see what most peoples alloy mtb rims look like after a few years of riding anywhere with rocks.
I would only worry about a dent if 1) it looks like there is a crack or fracture or 2) the tire no longer seals up
you can run a rim all dented to hell if it meets those two criteria
I want to buy a kids bike that isnt sold in the US, but I found it from a German website that will ship to here for 50$… will I pay $$$ in duties? Anyone done this before?
Yes, you will pay import duties most likely. Calculating this requires figuring out the harmonized tarriff code for the product then you can use some online calculators to estimate. Just need to know like price, country of origin, etc.
Oh shit… an online calculator says no duty on bikes from GER.
My Vaya’s rims were dented, scraped, and had deep gouges in several places from touring - both the rigors of carrying my fat ass + gear, and the wear and tear of the S&S case being hurled through airport luggage terminals with great force by their minimally-trained apes. No matter how I packed them, something always wiggled loose (usually the crank) and scratched through the anodizing.
I only had to change the rims once they stopped holding true, i.e. the metal was getting soft from the repeated stress.
Timberjack has rocker dropouts that are thru-axle compatible, right? That’d probably be my choice.
I’ve wanted a KM, Dragonslayer, and Timberjack all at various points. I would probably go KM or whatever is cheaper or has the best paint. They’re all decent.
Does anyone know the best way to contact logan watts? One of the bikepacking routes suggests the bikepackers camp in the middle of an extremely rare and sensitive shale barrens with three single site endemic plants.
Possibly the worst single acre on the east coast to pirch a tent.
this one kid in my seventh grade class pitched a tent one day in English and people made fun of him for the rest of the year, so that was a pretty bad spot to do it too
only if the purchase is declared by the sender to be over $800
and even then only sometimes
I JUST learned about de minimus value listening to a podcast about Shein and Temu.
They delete comments that are less than 100% flattering all the time, I imagine posting that in Disqus will get some quick attention. /s
Duty isn’t applied to items under $800, so if you’re below that threshold you’re good
how would I go about acquiring a spare derailleur hanger for my pole taival? pole is out of business so I wrote derailleurhangers and their response was they checked other competitors and suppliers and weren’t able to come up with a match. I’m waiting to hear back from wheels manufacturing but it doesn’t look good.
Have you tried to contact the Pole guy. Seems like he could still hook you up.
Not yet but that’s a great suggestion. I’ll shoot him a message through social media bc this part has been obnoxiously difficult to source
Have you tried this?
