why Pears hatin?
all my shimanos hold juice
My shimanos are 50/50 leaks. I think the early ones were alright. Ive heard loose talk about the hope mineral and the magura as having very fine tolerances, as in, the gap between the disc and pad. The TRP entry level stuff seems really solid?
I have a 180 disc on the front of my bikepacking rig now. All the power I need that’s for sure. Not the same modulation of course, altho I am using their super stiff outer. Oh yeah. I think you can buy direct from Japan now…
I take back what I said about only ever using shimano hydros. I had maguras on this bike when I first got it and they were utterly hateful things held onto the bars by like wood screws into plastic. They were such trash that I’ve been poisoned against the brand forever.
Totally fair. I hate that design, too.
TRP it is, or give up on the juicy grabbers and go mechanical
Never.
Any specific TRP models we like, or just grab whatever suits my fancy?
Has anyone replace a hose on them?
The kid biek has Tektro 285 brakes. They’re perfectly cromulent. The TRP Slate T4 is a little nicer than the Tektro 745, and uses the 1.9 mm rotors. If you bump up to the TRP Slate EVO, you’d need the 2.3 mm rotors.
I have the Tektro M745s…they’re fine. Definitely as good or maybe a little better modulation than my older XTs.
TRPs are popular on porky ebikes so if you are a man of substance im sure they will be great. No idea of models
yes the Magura levers are absurdly overcomplicated and fragile with all the “carbotecture” plastic
but their calipers are simple and combine well with Shimano servo-wave levers
Oh really? I’ve got shimano levers coming out my ears, any magura calipers you’d recommend? The idea of making a Frankenstein appeals to me.
Ohhhh. What kind of hose/olive/barb shenanigans have to be done to mate the two?
I have a magura hydro cutoff on the ebike spliced into shimano hose with no fuss at all
So would this work for me in conjunction with my XT BL-M785 lever?

This is keeping in mind that the new SLX 7100 caliper is sitting in its package on my work bench as I type this. I should probably just install the damn thing and ride it till it leaks and then figure out some other option.
just install the slx if you have it.
did you get rid of the stock Maguras already?
Yeah, those are long gone unfortunately.
whats the team of expert consensus on sealant for use with tubes?
used to be finishline but they changed it and I don’t think the new stuff works the same.
if you can find a bottle of the stuff marked latex free instead of all the latex that is the good stuff. it doesn’t dry out just sits in there and works. you can leave a big aired up on the peg for a year and come back and you have pressure to go ride.
