How much am I going to hate owning a 2010s aluminum bike with pressfit BB?

is the canti s on cross bikes thing just aesthetic?

Wish I still had my Box and Gravity Research levers.

how much will you love life if you swap the pressfit for a threaded conversion bb joint from someone like wheelsmfg? One of the first things i did with my mtb with pressfit.

I like them from a functional perspective, they’re an interesting challenge for racing and underbiking. I also missed the bus on FM/TA and at this point it’s easier to keep building up my QR disc and tubeless rim brake hoard than introduce a third wheel and brake standard. So I keep looking backwards for bikes.

That and I started seriously racing cyclocross this year and it turns out even very stiff steel bikes are too flexy and shit to really give me all of it. So older canti-bikes are a cheaper way improve my options for now.

Most of the old QR disc CX bikes in my price range suffer from this nonsense:

why not v’s

I don’t know if I’ll like them

i wouldn’t fux with something like this unless it were very cheap, like <$400. my caadx occasionally had weird bb30 noises that i could never quite track down.

i was pretty happy when i sold it.

e: here’s a random $600 stevens cx

Mini-vees are great. I wonder if they have less clearance in the mud tho? I used to have them on my Singular Kite, and I did a fair amount of underbiking on that, and CX, my best CX actually. And having swung a leg over the disc kite, I’d prefer the rim-braked one. So much lighter. I’m still a massive fan of QR too. So convenient .

No it was built that way

i feel like the mud that gets past a canti is just going to get stuck in your fork.

mini v’s were great back when i had them in 09-10, but they also limit your tire size to like 38-40c iirc. they were really made for cx when we were thinking 38 was a big tire.

For sure. That would cover my CX racing, today even. I think I’m on 35s.

I had a disc Crux with press fit and it was fine. I ran 24mm spindle crankset with delrin adapters… wheels mfg maybe? I still have them and no use for them if anyone needs.

Sup never noticed any issues on her Giant, both alloy and then carbon cross bike.

I also bought a giant and haven’t had any issues. I did buy two new shimano bbs just to be ready. Will see how hers is come January, as I know her i9 front and likely rear hubs need new bearings.
