Did you just ShartQ?

I get my kicks installing bb86 cups with a chunk of 2x4 and a hammer

I thought they were referencing a BSA adapter

I’ve only ever had creaky PF BBs when someone (usually me) fucked up the install.

Frank nailed it exactly with what I was intending in my previous message.

This will definitely solve that. Between those tubes and the high bottom bracket

Yeah i put 10,000 miles on my giant with bb86 and no creaking.

Bb86 has a nice plastic layer around it that pads any shell anomalies.

I listened to 2 podcasts with the guy who was the mouthpiece on the new Giant Anthem and he stressed how inferior screw in BBs were compared to their press fit. What a job having to do that for every Tom, Dick and Harry.

How many of these do you think were made? 200?

V1 or V2 whatever

I bought a V1 Fog Cutter frame from Soma in 2018, 2019, and a third one in 2021 when the model was discontinued for V2. Based on what I could figure out from the serial and order numbers on the boxes there were less than 150 frames between the three I ordered. I have to imagine the Grand Randonneur had at max the same run as the V1 Fog Cutter.

Does the Soma guy who does their YouTube videos post here?

In my experince the bb86 alu giants are well made. Some are a little undersized if anything. If you are running a Shimano crank send it with an OEM Shimano BB and you won’t regret it. FUKKA thread together anything on bb86/Shimano if it can be avoided.

Are you applying the German tank problem to Soma frames?

How come drop in bearings work fine on headsets but everyone hates bbs

I guess no one is barspinning at 90rpm

Didn’t Hambini go down this rabbit hole?

Cartridge BBs removed the need to have a parallel face on each side of the BB. Unless you were running cup & cone, you didn’t have to worry as much about facing the BB shell.

Ashtabula cranks gave zero fucks. I used to install mine with a block of wood and a mallet.

You beat me to posting that!

Oooo I got jones LWB fever but everything appears to be sold out on his site. Should I call? Do I have to? I’ve never experienced a JJ phone session and perhaps it’s time.

or do I respect the inventory management and continue to quietly yearn?

Every time I have run into an expensive jones the guy implies a personal relationship with the guy.
