Did you just ShartQ?

Bugger. Yeah, dental pick sounds like the best approach. Lots of jiggle.

Is the little lever getting hung up on the inside of the pulled forward hood? Sometimes that happens and you cant get the lever to click. Check that and pull tension on the cable while shifting down?

Yeah, I’ve fallen prey to this in the past.

Did you open the little door (part 11) on the bottom and look from that direction?

Does a waxed chain do well in dusty desert environments?

My experience is that waxed chains do good in dry and dusty.

Really happy with wax-based chain lube’s performance in dry/dusty Colorado.

Speaking of chain lube, I am just about through my bottle of Effetto Mariposa Flowerpower lube. Preliminary numbers put it on the same level as Finish Line. I’ll be going back to Squirt.

I’ve been on Squirt for a few years now and its done me quite well in dry/dusty SoCaL

Curious to know more about this.

Since I’m due for a new chain, what chain wax am I supposed to be throwing my money at then? Would a gasoline soak be fine to strip everything off the new chain?

Have never used gas but the silca chain stripper works really well

The Silca stripper is worth it ATMO

Paraffin is all you need as chain wax imo

I bought 4 lbs of paraffin and a little bottle of tungsten disulfide and I think I’m set for the next decade.

I’ve been tracking my wear with various lubes over the years after reading the most recent ZFS article about chain lube.

This chain is about two years old with 1,350 miles on it, using the Flowerpower lube. The last time I threw the chain checker on it, it was almost past 0.5. The previous chain was 1,550 mi over about the same time with Squirt.

In what way do you think type of lube affects chain stretch?

Its pin wear not stretch right? Lube can prevent wear because slippery
