Yikes. I really like the Stamp 7s, but I refuse to pay the going rate. Might be time to give the new Chester’s a try.
I found Stamp 1 to be really mid but Chesters are great.
I’ve got a set of the new stamp 1 gen 2 on my full sus, have only ridden them a few times so far but initial impressions are good. Underfoot feel is virtually indistinguishable from my stamp 7’s, except with better grip (the thru-pin design seems like an improvement). The internals are now also the same as the 7, except that plastic bodies should keep them sounding nice and not like a tin of loose coins as the internals wear. I haven’t tried the new chesters but I definitely prefer these over the old ones.
I really thought we all agreed Crank Bros makes garbage products a long time ago.
2020 Chesters are $19 on the Race Face website right now, just bought 2 lol
Not a fan of their overly small platforms.
nods in Cobalt cranks
So, does one pin work for both sides?
yeah, they work. it does mean you can’t adjust pin height without changing them out completely, but the stock length is perfect for mtb IMO. I believe they’re also 4mm grubs, which means they should be more resistant to bending/breaking off compared to the 3mm pins used on most back loading pedals e.g. chester, oneup composite, deftrap
I’m also considering reversing the entry direction on half of mine so that the tool heads aren’t all exposed on the same side in case of a big pedal strike
I think chester v1 are probably good for shart and general commute. I also jumped on the sale.
Wasn’t loving it on hardtail. Swapped the v1 OneUps that were on my dj. liked their grip a bit better.
Definitely pedals are. But candies great for CX.
Yeah I have them on all my bikes but they are all pretty much on townie duty. Not sure how I’d like them if I was shredding the gnar
Being a nerd is cool. That dude will go to insane lengths to promote toxic PTFE/WS2 impregnated waxes over ever trying pure paraffin in a fair test tho. I believe the current official line is “commercially available parrafins (melted dollar store candles? He only tried one) Contain some additives including mineral oil which make them unsuitable. No you can’t see the full test results , please buy this toxic forever chemical wax for $40/lb”
chain wax is only $40/lb? that’s so cheap.
i wonder if waxing chains with leftover ski wax would work
What is the concern over WS2 impregnated wax? Only things I could find were warnings not to inhale it as a powder, which, yeah.
number of people on the EC discord that seemed to be using plain ol’ paraffin blocks for their chains with no problems and the same waxing intervals as the fancy waxes
my wax crock pot is still plenty full of the MSW stuff I got last year, but whenever it runs low I’ll probably just throw normal paraffin in there
Mix them and stretch the good stuff out just in case?
Is there actually a demonstrated benefit?
Nanoscale particles of heavy metals are generally bad and there’s zero literature on longer term safety.
In any case , its opaque what’s actually in many of the products he hawks - boutique PFAS-like compounds are a strong possibility. Why not just properly test high quality food grade parrafin?
He beats everything else to death in testing but won’t try a simple, cheap and foodsafe option?

So they go full MAHA and anti-vax. ‘No, really, Im looking out for you. Now buy this alternative from me that is so totally better!’
