Anyone use a helmet with those magnetic eye shields? Are those a nice feature to have, and can they block frontal wind noise?

I had a helmet with a retractable visor that didn’t block shit. I don’t know how raindrops got up under the visor and into my eyes but they did!

First time dealing with a bent replaceable derailleur hanger, I’m considering a few things–

  • remove it and bend/hammer it back straight?
  • leave it on the frame and use an hanger alignment tool to bend it back?
  • buy a replacement hanger?

Mainly wondering if these aluminum replaceable hangers are too delicate to bend back. It might be a pain trying to find the exact hanger, since it’s a MY2000 frame

Every aluminum hanger I’ve tried to straighten ended up like this.

lol my original white Air Attack was the non-visor version

I got a later teal Giro aero helmet with one, but my glasses at the time didn’t fit underneath the visor and lost track of it

I restraightened an OPEN UP one but its just there as a spare spare. Now that i am all friction it probably doesn’t matter, as long as I’m not shifting into the spokes.

Mine is shifting into the spikes now! Time for replacement then

I offered to ā€œtune upā€ my friend’s bike. It’s a late 80s/early 90s Diamondback and it’s 100% original and looks like it has been stored outside its entire life. I honestly don’t know how she’s been riding it in its current condition. I should probably assume that I’ll be delving deep into my parts bin to get it back into rideable condition. I think I have a pair of mismatched 26" wheels I can donate to the project. I’m not sure what my question is, I just don’t want to get half way into fixing it and then have to wait days for parts.

Now that I think about it, maybe I should just build up the anonymous 26er frame I have that’s too small for me, the Diamondback is too big for her, the saddle is slampt(and totally covered with ducktape).

She’s a very dear friend and it pains me to see her on such a busted bike. Any bike she ends up with will be stored outside but in a well covered, semi-secure location. I gotta stop myself from building up some overwrought nerd bike for her and just fix up the bike she already has.
What would tarck do?

I would first try lube on cables/housing and chain and see what happens. That was always the first step at the bikeshop and a lot of times these old mtbs amazingly come right back to life.
But if she’s a super good friend sus out whether she would like a surprise new bike. If she’s not attached to the old one maybe giving her a good one would make her happy.

It’s def gonna need new cables and housings, I saw lots of rusty wires sticking out of the shift housings.
Brake pads actually look ok(it’s Chicago after all), I think I can sand them and safe them.
I think I’ll see about removing two of the three chainrings.
I’ll buy a chain and cables. I didn’t get a good look at the gear cluster yesterday so I don’t know what to get. It’s 7 speed, maybe a freewheel.
