Did you just ShartQ?

There is definitely a point where removing crusty stuff to refurbish or replace with new parts is much more of a pain in the ass than just taking those new parts and putting them onto an already existing bare frame, that’s clean and in known good condition.

You have to make that call of time/$$/parts bin depletion, but from the sounds of it I’d be tempted to jettison her old bike and just build a replacement.

or even making an educated guess of her size and finding something complete and serviceable in usedway, giving it new grips and saddle if it needs from the parts bin

Is this dent in a $150 Surly pacer a deal breaker?

It could be a decent frame for my kid.

I’d go for it. That doesn’t look too bad.

You should buy it just to fix those upside down cable stops

Almost every used bike I’ve ever bought had a dent in the top tube (I think it’s 4 at this point).

I assume a surly can take a lot of dents

turdly buttways as a feature

Rerder with a new hanger installed shifts better without needing any adjustments than before the crash, go figure

What drill bit size should I use to drill a rim for schrader?

Call JJ and ask him

I don’t have three hours to spare.

Here’s the DB in question:

All original except for that dangler. This thing has received more maintenance than I’d expected! Green grease present on the brake studs!

I knew I could count on you Jameson.

I just googled. Might be wrong

Yeah I was gonna say this is the type of question that just gets typed into a search engine whenever it comes up. I think that is the post I have referenced myself, though I also think that I ended going up to 11/32”.

I’ve done a lot of schrader experimentation and tbh I have bike pumps that only do presta but no bike pumps that only do schrader so eventually I got tired of it. Also schrader valve stems are either heavy or of low quality. There is no middle ground.

I would just hold a schrader valve to a bit set and go up till it fits the hole

but I can imagine a world where you have no set and are trying to order The One
