There is definitely a point where removing crusty stuff to refurbish or replace with new parts is much more of a pain in the ass than just taking those new parts and putting them onto an already existing bare frame, that’s clean and in known good condition.
You have to make that call of time/$$/parts bin depletion, but from the sounds of it I’d be tempted to jettison her old bike and just build a replacement.
or even making an educated guess of her size and finding something complete and serviceable in usedway, giving it new grips and saddle if it needs from the parts bin
Yeah I was gonna say this is the type of question that just gets typed into a search engine whenever it comes up. I think that is the post I have referenced myself, though I also think that I ended going up to 11/32”.
I’ve done a lot of schrader experimentation and tbh I have bike pumps that only do presta but no bike pumps that only do schrader so eventually I got tired of it. Also schrader valve stems are either heavy or of low quality. There is no middle ground.
