Ideally 32mm but id settle for 28mm. I have other bikes that do big
I don’t want dick brakes
He rides is all the time, no failures.
The last generation diverge fit 32s well, ( I think it maxed out at 38s) with room for fenders I think, and was available in a nicer alloy, but it still has dick brakes. I can’t think of anything that exists in that realm that doesn’t have cantis, or dicks, or is aluminum
Ok so then I’m saying get a sprint, set it up long and low, rip your fucking legs off with it for 90-120 minutes at a time. Like, if you already have rando / dirt road bikes, then make this one a fast rad road bike.
I would not base your understanding of road geometry and your needs thereof on anything from Gunnar. I’ve had and loved a few Roadies, but they are extremely big stack short reach bikes.
I’ll note again that you can definitely buy a caad10 with decent parts for less than a thousand bucks
Thanks. The thing is w the caad is I’d want to test ride and there’s no dealers w them in stock ever here.
Also do they fit 28?
Also bb30. Thumbs down
Ah fuk
I’m saying buy one off Craigslist for under a thousand. if it sucks, whatever, sell it to someone else for $100 less than you paid for it, learn a relatively cheap lesson. If it’s fun, great. I doubt it fits 28mm tires, but if you ned a bit of plush just do 25mm tubeless, it’s at least as comfortable as 28mm tubed.
BB30 is not great but again, not that big of a deal. It’s just a bike, if it sucks there are more bikes out there.
GTFO if you’re gonna buy a new bike without disc brakes
Then there’s the answer for jdsmooth. Honestly if I was a frame builder I would charge a lot more for new thru axle dropouts with disc mount than I would for just adding diac mounts. I can add a disc mount in 30 minutes, but replacing the dropouts is a complex job regarding maintaining alignment. So I wouldn’t bother with the thru axle
Rim brakes for road bikes are perfectly fine, and probanly getting cheaper on the used market if your sentiment is the prevailing one.
Ok but why settle for “fine”
Or even worse deliberately seek it out
When literally the only point of buying this bike is to get better brakes
By “fine” I mean “identical in performance”. Unless you’re riding in the rain on your crit bike (why?) or are using carbon rims ($$$), you’re lying to yourself if you think an ultegra hydrodick will outbrake an ultegra rim brake
I don’t need discs for a 30mm tire. Rim brakes work well.
This is a bikeforums-ass argument to get into, but discs are better in a few ways, right? Rim shape, not wearing out rims, cool screeching noises…
That last bit for sure
S claims discs have better modulation
That’s why I would argue they’re better. Just about any brake adjusted well is going to offer enough breaking force to exceed the coefficient of friction of the tire, the modulation and feel at the lever that allows you to better control the braking power to just underneath that point is why they’re better. Plus hydro-dicks feel guuuud.
Sure, in some ways they’re better. Some ways they’re worse. If I was building or buying a skinny tire bike though, I’d choose rim brakes because I live in Arizona, and they’re cheaper. My comment wasn’t addressing the specific case of Igor’s endless dithering though. Insisting on 30+ mm tires and rim brakes, but not cantis, is backing yourself into a very small corner occupied by none of the major brands. Sometimes discs are your only mainstream option
I suppose if I truly want to run 32mm there’s lot of steel options there, some better than others. Soma, all city, but now we’re staying away from rockets.
Also Ill say I was going to stick to rim because then I don’t need to buy new wheels
