Did you just ShartQ?

Let it go.
Also getting the halves of the clamp aligned on that seatpost is a fiddly but necessary step.

Your only option is to send it to Johnny coast for a $150 repair

Road or Trail? X-Horizon Trail 11 can handle up to a 50 no problem. I don’t recall what the biggest I jammed onto an Apex1 dangler, but I want to say 46 fit.

fully jbweld it into the clamp of a cheaper single-bolt seatpost that has more surface area

make the american version of this

If they’re hollow rails, jbweld a bunch of welding rod or spokes inside

Not hollow, but I definitely would sacrifice an old seatpost for this purpose.

My sram rival 1x clutch-way worked very well with a Sunrace 11-46. It was the medium cage one. The other one is a joke, only shifting to a 36.

What’s the current state of drop bar v-brake levers? It looks like there’s Dia Compe, Tektro, and Cane Creek options. It seems none of them are well liked. What’s terrible about these?

I’ve had the Cane Creek levers and liked them. I did not like the look of the little lizards all over them but the little dudes didn’t get in the way of their function. They felt really good in my big hands on wood chipper dirt drops.

Mostly the shape i believe

I liked the Cane Creeks for the shortish time the bike was setup with them, good shape and ramp transition on Cowbell bars for my biggish hands.

I have a pair of Tektros if you want 'em.

I’ve a colleague that wants to get into a good value carbon road bike with no shop-bro connections of any sort. Wondering if there’s anything I should recommend? One of Cannondale, Trek, Specialized, or Giant?

They should find the best and closest shop to where they live and buy whatever 105\carbon thing they have.

I work with a few people who don’t know anything about bikes who proudly announced to me that they’d outsmarted everyone by buying direct to consumer and who also have quietly spent every dollar they saved and then some in shop labor and parts that would have been included or discounted at purchase.

I think unless your friend is reasonably knowledgeable or derives great pleasure from perceiving themselves as smarter than normal people, building a good relationship with a shop they like and feel comfortable with is probably more important than whether or not the perfectly good 105 bike they get is from specialized, trek, Cannondale, etc.

I will say that Trek is currently dealing with some issues related to their dedication to producing and selling police bikes, which are presently being used as weapons against protestors, and a rumor of company mandates That came thru trek stores to not display BLM messaging.

Good to know if that’s important to them

@defundbikepolice on Instagram is covering this stuff daily if you want more info

I didn’t mean to imply that my colleague wouldn’t be patronizing a shop. Just wondering if there’s anything particular I should point him toward.

He’s in SF, if anyone has specific shops to recommend.
