Did you just ShartQ?

I had them on one bike and hated them. I don’t remember why though. I think they were harder to adjust or harder to get a wheel in and out of or something but yeah I distinctly remember wishing I had just gotten normal shimano v brakes

Is Revelate still the best in the game for frame bags?

I’ve been using their stem and half frame bags for a few years, and am probably picking up a few more bags for an upcoming project. If there’s a company that’s really moved design forward, I’d love to give their stuff a try.

Fred has argued repeatedly in favor of Oveja Negra.

The best commonly available would be CX9, ATMO.

They’re nothing special though, just really good V-brakes. Ships with an adjustable noodle, and titanium bolts.

That’s technically a mini-v.

Just get some Shimanos or Avids.

Hope you can find some. They’re all sold out here.

i can only find alivio which may just have 2 do

Those work great. Our go-to for repairs.

I still use the Sheldon method for cleaning my chain (drop it in a plastic bottle with some kerosene, slosh it around). Am I a dummy for still doing it this way?

I do the same way but usually with acetone. Full submersion just works so well but dealing with the solvents make it kind of a pain, so I only do it 1-3 times per chain and then do wipe downs more frequently

Chain submerged in solvent and agitated is the way. No sonic cleaners, but shaking or whatever is good.

Edit: I like to keep two old plastic peanut butter jars for soaking and shaking chains and hardware. One jar is full, other is empty. Soak and shake or whatever, let it sit for a minute so the gunk settles. Pour the clean-ish solvent off the top into the other jar, remove and rinse parts/hardware, and toss out the gunk in the bottom into my waste oil jug.

Replaced the fork on my fixie with an old surly, everything is an upgrade except the steer tube length, I’ve got about 30mm and all my stems are 40ish, what’s a 9/8ths threadless stem with a low stack height? Ideally 100-120ish long.

rinse with… water?

Some of the older FSA stems were 35mm:

Yep. Then dry, lube, and wipe before reinstall.

When I was maintaining a fleet of hybrid bike rentals years ago, we found a bulk deal on Alivios that was just a few bucks more per brake than new brake pads. I installed probably 75 pairs of those brakes in a summer and they are fantastic.

I would use them on my own bike, no question, except that I haven’t yet found a good reason to replace the perfectly functional V brakes that came with the bike my parents bought me when I was 12 and have lasted for 21 years and four frames (and counting).

I guess there are probably reasons to buy more expensive V brakes, but I haven’t really figured them out.

I just picked up a set of parallel push xtrs at a yard sale so as soon as I snag pads we’ll find out if there is a reason.

they are great. replace pads when they they wear out with something nicer. but they are v brakes so they work great

thank u tarck u sold me

Do people really remove a chain to clean it? I just wipe the thing with lube till it’s dead and replace it. Do you people have all the time in the world to do bike maintenance?
