i got a flat on my tubeless setup yesterday. pulled over, tried to pool the sealant- wouldnāt work. shoved a bacon in it, refilled tire with road morph pump, and got back on the bike before my standlights turned off

I have the triple compound Kool Stop pads in road-style holders. I donāt ride in the wet much. If I did, Iād get full salmon.

Explaining the bullshit takes more effort than getting through the bullshit. Would be the same explaining how to setup a tubed tire the first time.
From my perspective, tubeless is less bullshit altogether and I never really struggled with flats overmuch.

I think youāre on the hook for the same amount of time doing tire bullshit for either tubed or tubeless. Tubed you spend the time struggling on the side of the road or trail. Tubeless you spend the time struggling on the setup at home.

A better mechanic than me said that tubeless or not, a lot of the tire nightmare stories you hear are the result of user error. With tubed itās wtf so many flats in a row (because you didnāt know to check for that tiny piece of glass); or else wtf had tube installed and just basementing along when suddenly BANG (because you didnāt know how to check for folds of tube under the bead). Tubeless has its own doofus moves that you just need to get past as quickly as possible.

Tubeless is easy and I canāt imagine messing with tire changes on the side of the road during my leisure activity at this point.

plus the worst case failure mode for both tubeless and non-tubeless is identical. if shit really hits the fan you just put a tube (probably also a boot) in and ride off. if the problem isnāt fixable to the point where you can put in a tube, then you woulda been calling for a ride either way.

this is where I ultimately wound up but decided Iām okay putting in a tube for all my flat instances and so may as well just do so without also involving goop

at this point is bacon technology solid or are yāall also riding around with a tube kit
bacon tech has saved my, ahem, bacon a few times now. I trust it enough to not bring a tube, except on real long trips where I know sag wagon isnāt gonna be possible.

Hearing that tick tick tick sound, stopping to pull out the thorn, then having the goop seal up the hole makes all the hassle of tubeless worth it atmo.

I bring both. Bacon wonāt really fit into small holes that you only flat over because it turns out your sealant dried upā¦

I bring a tube if I donāt have time to walk home.
Iāve only ever had one flat that sealant and bacon wouldnāt solve.
I had to spend 2 hours at a Discount Tire on Friday, and was very pleased by all of the tire snap sounds resonating thru the place

Iām using a KMC Z 8.1 chain on the e-bike. Iām using a 9 speed cassette. It says itās not supposed to be able to run 9 speed but I clearly am using it works out fine. Should I just get that one since I need to buy 2 Chainz for the xtracycle and the price difference is $6 per chain? I should be okay right?
Fuggit ordered the 9speed chains
