Did you just ShartQ?

This bike really confuses me, Purely off the geometry chart.

The size that I think I would ride has a very long reach and the size that I would size down to seems to have a low stack like a race bike

Is this bike meant to be run with an 80 mm stem?

What I really want is some thing like the aspero or the stigmata but I don’t have the bike budget right now to make that a reality. Maybe I save my $ a bit more or sell more things

Given the way you appear to go through bikes: Find a used one? There’s gotta be some gravel bike churn going on with how many have been sold in the last couple years.

I’d say just save for the one you want then.

I’m looking at the M compared to my road bike. 30mm more stack, so just over an inch taller at the HT, which seems about right. One could add spacers as well. 20mm more reach, given that I’m on a 12cm stem, that’d yield a taller fit with a ~10cm stem.

Seems about what I would expect.

Yeah

Canyon Grizl Geometry

The Grizl’s fit and handling geometry are almost identical to the Grail with the Grizl getting 10mm longer chainstays and a touch longer wheelbase. Canyon took a page from the mountain bike playbook for both of its gravel bikes and stretched the frame’s reach and wheelbase. This, says Canyon, improves the Grizl’s stability.

And to offset the potential drawbacks of a longer bike, Canyon’s team tweaked the cockpit, ā€œTo keep the steering responsive, we offset [a longer wheelbase] with 20 mm shorter stems than on our road models, while 20 mm wider bars increase leverage for steering input, and ensure more balance when things get bumpy.ā€

It feels fine on the road and really good offroad. It’s on Bikeinsights to comp, no geo change from last year.

They’re brushing up on some really interesting stuff but aren’t quite there yet.

Old coworker at Canyon got one, rides really good. Only bummer with Canyon road is the 1 1/4 steer tubes.

the 1.25 steerer was extremely annoying for like two weeks while i tried to acquire the right stem and had to overspend on it and pray it was right. since then obviously i haven’t cared at a…

The Archer Components wireless shifter system really interests me. I don’t really understand why because I am anti electric shifting in general. Maybe it’s cos of it’s ditherability. I get the impression that the battery doesn’t last long now that it shifts faster. Has anyone had a play with them?

light/minimal rear rack for panniers?

have drilled brake bridge & SS brazeons

tubus fly?

I had a Tubus Vega for years. That thing was great. It felt plenty stiff for most stuff I’d carry on that bike and was really fucking light.

Tubus fly is a great rack but I had some trouble fitting it ove 700x38 and fenders. It fits great over 26x2.0 with a fender.

Tubus has some great dimensional drawings on their site. I’ve used them many times trying to figure out height/clearance questions.

Love my fly. Better looking than any other off the rack option. I can load both bags full of groceries with no noticeable flex. Fully recommend

GRX only has a weird pull ratio for the FD, not the dangler, right?

Yep, assuming you mean 11-speed, rear is standard road 11sp indexing

Edit: although I don’t think the fronts pull is weird either, it just has a wider chainline, but the pull is the same relative to that iirc

i’m due for a new rear rim + cassette on my red bridgestone mb-4 and want more range, so i might as well do a new hub, too. What can a squeeze in here? 11speed and keep my power ratchet thumbie? Will I need a new dangler if i get a big new cassette?

I don’t think your going to get more than 36 teeth under that derailer.
