OTOH, I couldn’t get a hardware store bearing puller to work with my PT crank and it was a pain in my dick. Similarly, had that crank on a light aluminum campy cross bike, which was all sorts of fun
TY. Found the SQLab 511 buried in some instant graham comments too, which might be a little higher quality.
Is there a replacement for Raceface Cinch bottom brackets that are decent? I swear the bearings are made of paper. I go through at least one a year without even that many miles.
@EndpointBraden recommended Cane Creek Hellbender
I unknowingly consumed an Athena powertorque crank the first year they switch over from ultratorque, the same year they switch over to powershift(?) from ultrashift levers. Learned what both were after the purchase and was able to track down a previous year crank and lever set. Didn’t end up using the new stuff, other than striping the alloy blades from the levers, and finally donated the crank last year.
This can be pretty normal for 30mm spindle units in my experience. Even the best have mediocre seals.
What frame interface? If you have BB86/92 they did update to a doublerow bearing not that long ago that does work quite a bit better. If you are using BSA it is what it is.
How aggressively do you clean your bike? In my experience extra caution when cleaning to reduce water incursion goes a long way with these.
Clean after most rides, but it’s so dry and dusty here I just use a brush and some simple green sprayed on a rag. Never liked the hose the bike down method. I’ve had it on my Lynskey with a press fit, though currently I have a bsa adapter in there. I think from wheels mfg.
What carbon rims should I get for my endpoint?
Which endpoint
Light Bicycle
What tires?
My HG commuter. Gonna put Bokens on there. I figured LB was the answer but which ones?
Get the 27mm wide nexties
No need for maintenance if you swap parts all the time.
Nextie or LB. Both good choices. 12k weave plus TAF decals on the Nextie might be the way though. Don’t get hookless if you can avoid. I’d say i25 is going to be optimal for a 47/48 tire but plenty of width to also run a 2.2.
Can confirm. Closest I’ve come to wearing something out was pulling a chain off the road bike at about 1600 miles to rotate in a new one, going on the theory that rotating through 2-3 chains would help rings and cassette last longer. Never quite finished that experiment.
SQ has anybody ever had issues with “cheap” square taper crank bolts? I am having issues with a crank arm on my ebike again and I realize this is probably a place they saved money, but I know how to install square taper arms and it just seems to keep coming loose on one side even after replacing the arm once.
Has your bb rounded out due to loosening arms?
I mean the guess is always that the steel spindle survives and the aluminum arm dies, but I’m also suspecting a problem with the spindle now.
I have seen a few cases where the spindle was either never right, or damaged and killed more than one crank arm.
