I like Tesa 4288 tape, which I get off ebay. Itâs unavailable in single unit quantities in most places.
Orange Seal Endurance is my preferred sealant. Iâm just following advice from @EndpointBraden who seems to do a lot of setups in his shop.
For valve stems, I like the blingy Lindarets titanium ones, but really the Muc-Off V2 is my favorite. Itâs 7075 aluminum and stronger than most others. Iâve bent a couple, so that matters to me.
Get a syringe for sealant.

Is there any valve stem out there that doesnât get clogged? Iâm sick of crawling on the floor poking at my wheels like a loon.

I drilled a pair of rims out for schrader a couple of years ago. No regrets.
^ wanted to do this with my current rear wheel and got chastised at the bike shop.
Iâd give it a shot but at this point Iâm too committed to Silca pump heads.
SQ: how is low trail supposed to handle with no load?
Most of the time I wind up riding with barely anything in the bag. The front end will begin a turn just fine, then be completely disinterested, and if I push it more, it will snowplow off line. This is in gravel (unfortunately most of what I do now) or tighter turns. I think some of it may also be the short chain stays on the CG.
Should be fine with bag and rack, even if mostly empty. Thatâs enough to counteract the trail.
Thatâs pretty standard low trail behavior. Might need a regular trail fork for unladen swallow groading. My rawland doesnât shred around corners like a normal roadie but is much more fine with some weight out front.

This is a really good way to describe it. Jan called it running out of trail when he discovered same behavior on steep off-chamber stuff. I found the same riding my rando bike as a monstercross bike for a few months, itâs just the way it works at certain speed/attitude, especially with knobbies on dirt - like the bike dgaf for turning until all the sudden the knobs hit at the right time and it pulls itself off line.
Countersteering aggressively almost to the point of parody helps but even then the steering sensitivity is so much that the steering does not feel well hitting all the little rocks and stuff affecting where youâre going. Low-trail can suck off-road for anything really technical or at aspirational speeds one hits rarely.

I have one. Not very impressed, TBH. Much prefer the comparable Topeak unit.
Yeah, thatâs one thing I noticed about low trail on my sweet fixie⢠â on the second half of 200ks the front end would start to wander like there was a fire in the low trail factory. Shovelling cargo into the front rack helped settle it down, but who wants to carry 20 pounds of groceries up and down Mount Hood?

boyfriend got the lezyne tubeless pump thing and this is the worst part. it screws on to the valve core thread so it doesnât work without the valve.
so irritating. the air goes in so slow. it still works with the âseat the bead with a tubeâ method though.
with narrower rims, Iâve always been able to seat the tire with just like extremely rapid fire pumping with a floor pump. i just pop the tire 90% on, dump the milk in, pop the rest on, then pump like crazy. itâs a good method because you look like an absolute insane person after the first attempt fails and youâre sweating, hair razzled, pumping like a mad person on your porch while people drive by. but usually gets it within 5 minutes or so. no so much with wide mtb rims. those are hopeless on that method.
also @quilbert420 co2 will save you a ton of heart ache if youâre willing to sacrifice a couple canisters. but make sure you have a co2 inflator that lets the air in RAPIDLY. i have one that does not.
