It is. Almost makes me want to go 1x. It’s the most fun of all my bikes tho. Gonna do an 850 km dirt brevet on it in a few weeks.
Big argument for AXS XPLR or Ekar.
Ekar really appeals but I’ve already got 2x wheelsets and 3 different sram danglers. Ratios 1x 13 ratchet would give me it all, bar the wheels… There’s no hack for that eh?
Not many hub companies support it yet. Sounds like AXS is probably better with that wonky shift cable stuff anyway… but alas, one must pay the cost to be the boss.
Yeah I’m obviously a luddite so not keen on electric gears.
I too am stuck in the analog world. But your woes with that Open would make me change my mind.
If the exchange rate ever works in your favor and you want to try it, I know a guy that ships world wide.
Shartq which ispec / matchnaker / problemsolvers product will let me mount ks lev dropper lever to trp Evo???
Maybe none? All the TRP adapters I have seen are for right hand.
I have a spare ispec lever that I am going to try, google tells me that trp Evo are ispec ev compatible
Is 54t star ratchet upgrade worthwhile for grav-grav bike? How about at $35 (have a gift card burning a hole in my wallet)?
I’ve heard anecdotal evidence that the finer tooth ratchets can skip/break because of how small the teeth are, but don’t know which ones that applies to or whether it is still a problem.
no
i have the 36 and it’s been flawless. i have heard the 54 can wear and skip. dt hubs are the most fuss free thing ever so i’d rather not add the fuss.
collect 19 more gift cards and get an Onyx rear hub instead
He doesn’t want a boat anchor, he wants a hub.
same as the other two responses: I’ve heard anecdotes about occasional issues with the 54T, but have no actual experience. The 36T ratchet in both of my 350 hubs seems great, tho
there’s now Chinese aftermarket ratchets in 36/54/60/64T
and that’s probably what you’re getting at $35
The ones at $35 are for genuine, I just happen to have a gift card that would bring them down to that price. Sounds like its not worthwhile though, and REI only has 54t, not 36t which sound like would be actually worthwhile and durable. Will leave these hubs at 18t, I guess
36 is good. Been using them on two bikes
Sadly, 36 is much more spendy than 54, in this context. Will save the gift card for ski stuff
