I have spd for all in the summer/fall and winter spd boot. I’d love to add a gaudy racey road shoe only for use on my road bike.
Mid Atlantic Imelda Marcos over there
If I were wearing a different pair of shoes for each distinct bicycle ride in my life, I’d want to simplify too!
Definitely torn about the spec.
For the riding I do with rocks, I’d be better off not going s-works, but damn the silver boas look soo good.
Are the silver boas metal? More durable vs just prettier?
Not a week goes by that I don’t consider “upgrading”.
Yep, aluminum. They adjust 1mm at a time and are fantastic on the road side
If you already have 3-bolt road shoes and want to use them with 2-bolt cleats, the SM41 adapters do exactly that. Walkability is maybe a touch better compared to SPD-SL cleats on the same shoes.
I have em. They’re ankle twisters.
Maybe depends on the shoe?
The pictured shimano shoes definitely aren’t the stiffest things, I just wanted to consolidate pedals.
Some sidis that might as well be ice skates.
I used to use SPD-Rs. Pretty much about as walkable as the original Speedplay cleats.
After I sold the tarck bike, I haven’t used my road shoes.
does the stack height change bother you when you ride with those adapters?
I’m definitely not a 1mm-er when it comes to bike fit issues, so the slight stack increase wasn’t really noticeable.
I absolutely notice the change when I ride the same bike with my regular (giro) shoes and with the SIDIs. I have to put my seat up 3mm or so.
yeah, it’s probably pretty variable depending on how much slack you have in your postural chain / how sensitive you are to those things.
I’m waiting to hear back from Bont about whether you have to take your Boa dials off before you bake your shoes in the oven to heat mold them. I’m guessing that 1. you do and also 2. wearing shoes through a wet winter and then getting them really hot will make for a very very stinky day in my home. These are a pair of Riot+ that I picked up last year to see if I liked Bont’s shoe design. Overall, yes, but I think it could be improved.
If the heat molding doesn’t get the shoes to be as comfortable as I want them to be, i’m in the market for new shoes, either more Bont (Vaypor S) or I’m taking the plunge into the new wave of open weave road shoes, either a pair of Fizik Vento R2 or S-Works Exos. The latter two are wildly expensive and no good for the winter, but I’m curious as to how ultralight ultrastiff shoes will feel. the Exos are absolutely wild, like 300g for the pair.
been riding Exos for a year now; feet either love ‘em or hate ‘em and they work for me
I find them to make my feet pretty warm in the summertime
just now beginning to show signs of wear
Yeah and at $500 that’s a sizeable gamble.
I thought they were super vented because of the open weave, that doesn’t help with cooling?
they’re noticeably warmer than any other road shoes I’ve ridden but also mine are brototypes and it’s entirely possible it’s not the same dyneema mesh upper but it looks pretty dern similar to the web merchandise
yeah, I may be mistaking a highly textured outer surface for breathability. for $500 I probably want my feet to breathe.
I guess either way the first step is heat molding the cheap Bonts I have now, see if I can get it to work. Based on what the internet says, it either works and is very easy or does not work and is very difficult, and I …like those odds?
I’m getting back into doing some pavement riding with clipless shoes and I’m using my old pearl izumi mtn shoes that are probably 10 years old at this point.
I havent really ridden in them in probably 3 years. Around the neighborhood they were a bit uncomfortable. They feel narrow. Im going to do a little longer ride today to check them out.
But if they dont work out what are the preferred shoes these days? Im pretty price sensitive as well right now.
