I’ve tried a few over the years. Never did more than a few rides before giving up.
Chacos and flats is better.

yeah, that’s the general consensus. And probably why I’ve never taken the plunge.
can confirm
Any suggestions on a nice walkable shoe that’s good in the cold?
I think it’s pretty interesting given what the team of experts have been saying about the importance of pedal/shoe interfacing for SPD footfeel.
This one is definitely funky, I’ve sketched lots of shoes and I think I’d feel pretty alright if I stumbled onto this for a chunky soled old thing…
I’m really looking forward to trying the flat-pedal model. Will be interesting to see how it fares when paired with a non-CB pedal.
Anyone here use/like Bonts?
bunch of my teammates use them?
vaypors were my favorite road shoes, just $$$ and not sure I’m picky enough to warrant it now.
I was just curious if people have personal experience with them and what they liked/didn’t like. There’s no way to try them on first.
Basically my much loved first-generation Rapha Yak leather shoes, which lasted 10 years and probably 50-60,000 miles or more are done. I want another leather shoe that is non-reenactment.
at one point you could get them in all kinds of custom colors
I’ve been using the Riot+ for a couple of years. The “tub, not plank” sole design is great if your feet definitely fit in the tub. My right foot is a half size wider and a third size longer than my left, and I was getting some pressure in the widest point of the outside of my foot.
The tub also means that you don’t get a full wrap feeling from tightening the shoes. I was trying out some of Fizik’s fancy velcro mesh shoes before the weather turned, and the difference is noticeable - the Fiziks are made to really grab your whole foot, not just to tighten on the top.
On the other hand, the Bonts are very comfortable once you get them molded to the right shape, and the limits to tightening might seem less frustrating with two boa dials instead of the Riot+'s boa and velcro.
If the Fiziks wind up not working for me, I may special order two different size Helix shoes from Bont.
Shimano is making goretex leather SPD boots!
- Strategic ankle padding prevents debris from entering the shoe without interfering with pedaling movement.
Love the idea. Seems like it could be a hard to find the right balance of support for hiking and flexibility for cycling?
Those look perfect for the snowy days where I should commute in hiking boots with flat pedals but would prefer to end up sliding down an icy hill on my side while still clipped in.
my feet are clammy jus lookin’ at ‘em
New Specialized flat pedal shoe is really good (much better than 5.10’s Trailcross).
Those look dope as well
Damn! Not sure how I feel about the New Balance vibes tho.
