Disco Slippers

At one point I had three different pairs of shoes under my desk at work. Along with sweaters, a jacket, a couple shirts…

Took a while to clean out my desk when I got laid off lol

Rudy, have these been killing your ankles?
I must have exceptionally boney / sensitve ankles. Wore these two days in a row and still hurting.
Half convinced I need to break them in (or they break me in), half convinced that maybe these just don’t fit.

Perhaps they just need a good soak in water while wearing to conform to my foot shape?

My new Gaerne shoes aren’t working out too well since, it seems, like they changed the fit and the toe box is much more narrow, compared to my last pair. Sucks.

But I think I’m gonna look into getting these:

Colorway matches my road shoes and I’m a fan of how those fit.

Front of ankle or sides? If front, I’d be inclined to try to break in the tongue. If sides, watch out for peroneal tendon (outside) or posterior tib tendon (inside) irritation. I’ve had tendonitis of both, due in part to shoes that came up too high around the ankle and dug in. It’s no fun.

I don’t think its a tendon thing, more like pressure on my inside (tib?) bone.
Skin is all red right now from the friction/pressure
Kinda wish the boot was a low cut shoe with a tall neoprene sock built in.

You can see from the rear view how much further the boot covers the inside ankle compared to the outside. I wish it was low cut on both sides.

These look comfy af, will investigate

I know this was a million years ago, but I ride in vans and 510s all the time. The 510s are quite a bit grippier, which doesn’t really matter as much around town as on a mountain bike, but it is a great feeling to be so attached to the pedals without being physically attached.

I’ve also found that Vans lose their grippiness a lot faster than 510s and are a lot more flexible.

I have the macaskil model 510 and it’s probably the least offensively styled shoe they make with the good good rubber.

That said I wear my Vans (with insoles) 90% of the time when I’m not MTB-ing because they look a million times better.

I chose Vans at random, but it could apply equally to any skate shoe.

It’s all about the rubber, really. Skate shoes have to be able to slide on grip tape. 510s are terrible on grip tape because the rubber is so sticky.

They also squeak on hardwood.

I kinda wish I didn’t like wearing the 510s. I went back to some more normal sneakers a time or two last week and it just sucked compared to the Freeriders. I wouldn’t want to wear them on days when I’m not on a bike but it honestly seems worth it any time I’m riding more than a couple miles. Would like them to be less fugly though

i bought some five ten freerider pros and i’ve ridden 2 or 3 times with em but i can’t get my feet right. i think i’m doomed to spds

i’m not getting the point of these special flat pedal shoes for anything other than high performance mtbing (in which case why not the spd? Is not good anymore for that?).

I ride big bmx-ish pedals in standard Gen X dad shoes (Asics Ultimate 81, Adidas indoor soccer shoes) and have never felt like I wanted for traction or couldn’t control the bike properly. Am I missing something?

I just prefer handling a bike with platform pedals. That’s it.

The extra grip is appreciated but as a big guy I appreciate the extra bit of stiffness in the sole as well. It’s not absolutely necessary, but if I’m riding more than a couple miles it makes a difference to me.

Same. 200 pound cru here.

I kinda like the look of these:

It takes time to change your riding to match having your bike setup so drastically unfamiliar. You’re looking at months here not days especially if flats are completely new for the type of riding your doing.

Why do 5.10 bike shoes not fit me at all but 5.10 climbing shoes fit like they were custom made for me?

Which bike shoe models have you tried?
Is the problem width or volume-related?
