fast bikes and fat tires

[quote=guysshoe]Word BAs tread pattern is pretty awesome! Gotta try them out if you get a chance. They really rock out

What frame? Looks like a fun bike.

That chart says my front tire (23) should be 65 psi on my roadie. This seems low?

Unless you weigh 50lbs, I think you might be reading it wrong.

It’s a kilo wt (wide tire)

So much fat-tired goodness ITT.

Wax mold of my BA-inspired weddin’ ring has been made and approved. Casting should be done by end of week. Pics will be posted. Probably lots of them.

There better be lots of them.

The x axis the weight on the wheel, no? So 150 * .4 for the front. It has my recommended rear pressure around 90-100.

I guess I should add 20 or so for the bike…

i wondered that myself

Yet another ballin out of control tire for 650b:

700c no can has

A couple friends of mine just got these 700c x 45 tires: http://store.citygrounds.com/store/product/12589/Resist-Nomad-Tire/

Actual width is 41.5mm on a 24mm Velocity Dyad, weight is ~550g, pretty good considering it’s wire bead.

I’m gonna order some 700c x 35 Kojaks soon, which seems to be the only tire in it’s ballerness class that isn’t historical reenactment.

Dang I just put two holes in the front 38 maxxis overdrive I had on the sweet fixie. Might have to scoop one of those up

so the kojaks are rumoured to be significantly-more balleur and significantly more modern/better tire than, say, a pasela (non-tg) or grand bois cypres?

I already have wire bead 26" x 50mm Kojaks, and they’re definitely pretty rad. They measure 46mm on my super-narrow 19mm rims.

No flats after 1000 miles or so, though there are a few shallow scars in the bald tread from serious gnar-shredding / gravel grinding. They changed in character a little after the mold-release wore off, and the noise they make changes pretty dramatically with the road surface — enough to make you erroneously suspect you got a flat (until you get used to it).

They do have a puncture belt of some kind in there, but the tread doesn’t have a stiff feeling in your hand like a TG Pasela. The casing seems to retain air for a long time, they’d probably work well tubeless.

whatever.

vittoria hypers man.
best 700c 32-35-ish black tire out there.
kojaks are overrated and under-weighed (about 340 grams, actually).

I rode 26" Kojaks for a while, they rocked. Then the bike was stolen.

Love the Hypers. I went 1500+ miles before getting a puncture on my 35s. That included a fair amount of dirt road riding, too.

Just mounted some 700x42c Conti Contact Extra Lights. Weight is ~488g, and the width is 37mm. I am disappoint at them being so narrow, but considering that the 37s I had only measured 32, I guess I’m not too surprised. Don’t know how fast yet, but they’ll probably have a little more traction off-road than the Hypers.

Damn, somehow I hadn’t heard of any of those tires save for the Kojaks. You just blew my 700 fat tire world open beyond skinwalls. And once the skinwalls on my Jack Browns blow I’m looking forward to trying something else out, maybe approaching 40mm if I’ve got the clearance without fenders. I think 38 actual is as far as I can go, but that’s from testing my clearances with cross tires, so minus tread maybe 40…42…please, BJ?

Still jealous of the 650B club if not only for their tires.
