well… since there’s a couple 25c tubeless tires and a shitload of 700c tubeless disc rims, I’d look hard at that.
only time tubeless interests me is in a 32c slick to ride int eh desert
Yeah my crest wheels were around 1550g, but somehow that bike was 23lbs, I just assume it was the discs (that sucked anyways). I have no interest in discs now after that experience.
trp spyre slc’s and white industry hubs atmo
okay. I don’t think there are a whole lot (any?) 32c tubeless slick options.
meanwhile, a lot of 25c tubeless slicks are getting very positive feedback. And if I were the kind of dude who held that tubs were the one true gdo, that would be pretty fucking relevant to me.
keep in mind I have time
i was discussing this with an lbsbro a few weeks back
assuming things go they way they are
id be stupid to not be looking at discs for the future. If htis was a throw away allow frame I might think differently, but I’d like to keep it around for a long time.

anyone who things a tubeless tire is even close is kidding themselves
tire construction, laws of physics et al
I know im not getting a 25c tire that feels like an fmb
I’m thinking tubeless because there are rides, like a 170km mixed terrain I want to do in AZ that i would not feel comfortable doing on tubular because of cactus
I’m also cool to fly with a few sets of tires, and not two sets of wheels
Ban. Take that team mechanic/car talk bullshit somewhere else. You clearly don’t know anything about riding on tubular tires.
DT 240 hubs (convert the rear to 11 speed if you like)
Stan’s Alpha rims (340 front and 400 rear)
Laser or Revo spokes with Race or Comps for the right, rear
alloy nipples
32/32 3X
1515g or so.
1575g if you use all Comps/Race (probably a better idea at your weight)
The Alpha rims are pretty good rims and you don’t have premature brake track wear with disc. With DT hubs, you get access to Shimano rotors and the mtn hubs can be converted to 11 speed Campagnolo or Shimano.
Kirk’s the man. If he’s comfortable making you a bike like you are thinking about, it will be awesome. I do have to wonder if you might consider an aluminium frame/carbon fork though. Think Primus/Rock Lobster/etc with Enve disc cross fork for all the bad-ass you are looking for and a couple pounds less. Less expensive too.
PS - Alloy isn’t throwaway in the right hands, but you already knew that.
steel looks cooler
all that really matters, im not getting paid to ride this thing.

yeah i was thinking about this tonight when riding the cx bike. You could see shavings coming off the front EA70x rim, but they are shit alloy. I fully expect to replace my marinoni with a different cx bike, so I dont need one of those. I want something lower/longer than my cx position for this one, thing 55x58 race bike that fits 32s (easy with discs)
at 6’5 and 205-210 a 20 pound bike isnt as big an issue for me as it is for you.
also, I second ban on the tubular talk
spoken with someone with little to no experience with the system
just get a fixie bro then u don’t need brakes
sheeeeeeeeeit
tires dictate the whole build
what clearance I want will later dictate teh way the frame looks
If I’m already considering a new set of wheels for simplicity (ie r45s to a23 or something) then it doesnt cost me anything to go disc. If I just wanted another road racing bike, this wouldnt be an issue as I’ve already got a nice selection of wheels, outside the 60+mm carbon tub I’ll add at some point.[/quote]
You’re still overthinking it. Determine what the bike needs to be best at and have your framebuilder help figure the rest out.
I’m a CX tubeless hater currently, but I fully expect the quality and selection of 28-32 tubeless tires to be way better within a year or so, but if not who fuckin’ cares. It’s just wheels.
There are some finite limits to how light disc can be if you enjoy having teeth.
Just throwing alloy out there. Would love to see a long and low Kirk.
Oh, I never thought Nemesis rims set any bar for ride quality. Sidewalls too tall and they are too heavy. My GP4 rims give me all of it. Closer in design to the much lauded Paris Roubaix rims of yore. My stash is healthy.

they are never going to be great for cx, tubular will be king I think
tires are important, because they are going to set the limitation on what the build can do.
maybe i just need ot do caliper, but IDK if the future is 57mm reach brakes
they dont
there is still considerable difference between them and the rsys however
