Oh wow there are reflector kits for the SPD-SL pedals.
I wonder if that’s a German/StVZO thing? Or is that just for lights?
No need to be German. Also very Japanese.
Ah, that makes sense in a minimum-weight roadie way then.
Bicycles must be equipped with a light in front, a reflector in rear, and a bell.
I remember those from my shop days somehow. There were some bikes that came stock with spdSL pedals maybe? I definitely saw a plastic test ride platform for stock two bolt pedals. Maybe I just dreamed this one?
CPSC also requires pedal reflectors on all bikes other than track bikes (single gear non-freewheeling with tubular tires), sidewalk bikes (any bike with a seat height of 25” or less), and one of a kind made to order bikes (not assembled from production or stock parts).
What complete road bikes ever came with clipless pedal tho.
My ‘95 Stumpjumper came with VP mountain clipless pedals with a plastic platform that had reflectors.
That’s what I’m trying to figure out. If it was at the first shop I was in it was probably a TCR.
that’s the common delivery and presumably loophole method in my experience
now i’m thinking again about how i can add that to my atacs. i feel there are very few safety features are as effective against motorists. if you see that particular bobbing reflectivity, you know there’s a bike up that road, and hopefully you care enough that there’s an actual person riding it
you can get cleat locks for track racing too!
I agree, that and wheel reflectors going 'round.
IME reflective tape on edges of the crankarms have a similar effect.
Was just going to suggest Scotchlite tape or the retro reflective clear coat spray. I’ve used the spray on parts, whole bikes, T-shirts, backpacks…
DOT-C2 tape or SOLAS tape should survive the filth that crank arms are exposed to for a good long time. SOLAS is impressively expensive — although, as the safety nerds like to point out, cheaper than a funeral.
Finding plastic corner-reflectors like on pedals that fit crank arms nicely seems tricky.
damn you weren’t kidding

this seems like a decent option for bike use
Yes. good for urban use, commuting, touring, and light off-roading.
Mic drop
Any recommendation for an all-plastic BMX/MTB pedal with decent bearings?
I really like the One Up composite pedals
