Looking for something w/o metal pins.
whoops, didn’t know how all-plastic you wanted!
Haro SD pedals are nice. No metal pins and fairly thin
We sell a ton of the MSW Thump pedals with full plastic bodies and sealed bearings. They are quite cromulent.
Late to this but the Race Face Ride pedals have been good for me.
I’m looking for a set of flat pedals for one my bikes. Would these be a good buy for casual riding? Reviews have been kind of mixed so I’m hesitating here
How casual? If you don’t need sharp metal pins then I’d recommend looking at ergotec pedals. Big flat & grippy and no pins for shoe or shin damage.
I was thinking short rides of 15-20 minutes around my neighborhood on a fixed geared to break up the monotony of trainer miles? I like your recommendation big flat pedals w/o pins. I’ll look into those ergotec’s - thanks
Pins are a spectrum
I wouldn’t want flats with no pins at all. You can get plastic pedals with molded-in pins if you want something more friendly and aren’t worried about grinding them off on a rock or curb.
I think @Rusty_Piton has these pedals?
I bought those pedals for like 25 bucks on clearance and I wouldn’t recommend them at that price, let alone retail.
They were fun while they lasted but the bearings shat the bed after like 700 miles!
Binned em.
Speaking of budget platforms for around town use. I’m probably gonna stick with composite. Is there any reason to get anything other than raceface chesters? I see DMR, MSW, HT, and PNW all have options at the same price point.
Or do I just be cheap and get some bmx pedals that are $10 and will most definitely blow up in short time.
It’s kind of a wild gamble with Odysseys. Either they turn their bearings into rocks in a month or they mysteriously last for years without attention.
The more I look at this bike, the cooler it gets. Is that an orc forc/rack?
I have a set of Grandstand alloys on my commuter that I ran on my BMX, they have bushings instead of bearings and have been great for many years. Makes me chuckle when I see the pedal grind marks on my way to work in the morning.
chesters still hard to beat for the price and they last a long time. sup has had his on a mtb for years without any issues.
i also have the composite crankbrothers stamp and they seem fine, but i only ended up with those because i bought new chesters and my neighbor accidentally bought the large stamp pedals for his kid and so we trade.
both of those have been better than most metal flat pedals i’ve used that cost 2-3x as much.
Think I’m about to switch out my metal pedals for some plastic one up. I think they grip better than my metal big boyz.
I still can’t get more than a season out of any of the low profile metal ones before one pedal starts getting lots of play or making noise or something.
I bought race face atlas pedals last August and not only are the tall pins just absolute shin eaters, but one clicked a lot and now the bearings feel terrible on that side. Actually took them off my bike in July and put the composite crank brothers on (they were on my bike packing bike).
