Hey Toughguy! What gear you runnin?

48x16 for warmup, 48x14 for racing.

52X14 free then 52X16
then moved to fixed 52X18

49x18

46x18 work for now. though I don’t like it. I spin out on the flats, but I live on a 3 mile hill so it works

48x16/14
fixed/fixed hub

I’ve never been on a tarck. I commute, group ride and ermm… freestyle for lack of better word. I mostly ride 46x17. I started out with 42x15 then went up to 46x15. I later decided that I liked to be in the lower 70’s for gear inches and went up to a 17t cog in the rear. For skids what you want is for the number of teeth on your chainring to be relatively prime to the number of teeth on your cog. This gives the number of teeth on the cog as the number of skid patches (twice that many in come cases). Making either one a prime lets you change the other one out and have them be relatively prime (except for 51x17–51
=3*17). The 42x15 gearing eats tires without brakes, so I went with a different pair of gears to achieve a similar ratio. When I get a new crank one day, I’m going to a 47t chainring just because I’m a math geek.

45x16 right now

ive got a flip flop hub and thought a 17t might be fun, but i already spin out the 16t and i know theres no way i could stop quickly with a 15t… so the other side of my hub remains naked

44x15

46/17 Pista

20/21 Pista (Mt Washington NH.)

40/20 Cross Racing Fixed

32/18 Off Road MTB Fixed

I like to spin :colbert:

42/16 rain bike

46/17 soma. but i think im gonna pick up a 16. see how i like it.

46x15

i can push it just fine, but i’m tired of having tree trunk legs.
going to 44x15 as soon as i can find one.

47x16

48x17 on everyday bike
44x15/16 (double fixed hub) on my nice sunday bike
… and you do the gear inch maths.

But who has the biggest gear here?

46 x 16 all day. Slightly harder than my bmx gearing, I don’t know how many gear inches that is. Its hard to stop in the streets though and I’ll have to stay away from bigger hills til I get used to it.

Slightly? Thats a lot harder than almost any BMX gearing that I’ve ever seen. Its not as simple as comparing gear ratios…you have to factor the smaller wheel into the equation.

the difference between that ratio on 700’s and 20’s is like 20 inches. so yeah, definitely not slightly.

Yeah, wheel size makes a huge difference. My kid rocks 47/16 on his trail-a-bike with 20" wheel and he spins like mad back there, while I’m pedaling slowly along with my 45/16 with 700cs.

46 x 19 on two bikes, 45 x 18 on another. I like the spin.

on my singlespeed, i’ve gone from a 50 to a 44 to a 49 in the past couple of months, with a 16 in the back. the track bike when it’s built will probably be 48-17, once i get my hands on a chainring.

sometimes 17…
