I went for a ride today and here are some photos

hard disagree. was fine on desktops, absolute hell on laptops with early wifi cards. Before SP3, XP basically didn’t know what wifi was, you had to use software provided by the wifi card manufacturer to select which network to connect to. And even after SP3 it was pretty janktastic.

But tiny XP fitted on a cd !

I didnt recognise them from thst angle. Would Klampers be the most divisive brake as far as getting a consensus on whether they are good or not? Or is that the BB7? I still think BB7s are pretty good, and especially so for the outlay.

At least BB7s are cheapish

I was really pleasantly surprised with how good the tektro lyra with semi compression less housing were on a used bike I bought. They felt like my hydros but probably without the pad adjust etc. Meanwhile the promax with generic housing on my girlfriends cannondale are squishy af.

Should probably redo housing on the girlfriends bike imo

Google maps took me on a little adventure on the way to the kitchen supply warehouse place. I was surprised that it put me on this gravel path.

Is there any doubt that they’re good? I thought most of the hate was about the price, “yeah they’re nice but not 6x better than a BB7”

at least early on I saw a bunch of Klampers with corroded-to-hell fastners

and now if you’re gonna spend on fancier mechanicals, why not Growtac?

Why not get hydraulics and have a vastly superior system?

The best argument I’ve seen is for travel bikes that need a coupler. I don’t have that use case.

I haven’t looked in a while, but the last time I checked there were no hydro couplers on the market.

I think you’d have to be purposely designing a bike around uncoupling the brake cable for that to be necessary at this point. Just cut a couple of zip ties sheesh.

not advocating for the use but they do exist:

But what if my tastes are too esoteric and unique for sheeple brakes?

Then you should get hydros to differentiate yourself from the Radasheeple

I adore my boring hydros.

Not actually riding… currently on the ferry heading to Te Waipounamu, South Island, to visit my folks, then off on a poopbarn this monday 4th march. 1500 kms, on the second wave. Some of it I have ridden, some not. Looking forward to the singletrack in the first bit which is new to me. Some more new stuff later on. Decided to drop my tent and borrow a friends zpaks bivvy. Saved me so much bulk I have spare room now. Will try to share some pix of the more interesting stuff.
