As I pull into my neighborhood, I see the tip of Baker and the Twin Sisters and it still special if small.

have you told us about these bars before? are they wood?

That’s my buddies bikepacking rig. Like me he gets a bit of hand numbness at times. Hes a tradie so its partly occupational I think. Hes about 90 kgs and has not had any issues with them. Loves them.

I have this local lunch-time Work From Home loop that I established during lockdown. I would sometimes hit it hard, trying to see which of my bikes was faster, hardtail, fully 29er, full 26er, gravel bike. On a good day I am at around 60 mins. PB is 56. I spent most of saturday installing shifter guts into my buddies sram SS levers so we could run his dropper post off them. Yesterday, monday, I decided to do a loop of my circuit to test it out. There were a few people out on the trails, a lot of them with headphones on, or just really fecking deaf. So the bike has these ridiculous 60 cm Walmer bars on it, and because he is a merrikan, the levers are all backwards. So I did my WFH loop, first time on a proper singlespeed for years, first time on this bike, and I only crashed twice, the last time, quite hard, while going up hill. I had forgotten how aggressively you have to ride an SSer, just to keep on top of the gear. The dropper worked real good. I got home and Strava told me I’d done a 60 minute time and picked up two 3rd fastest times. And there was no way I was trying to go hard. I just wanted to test the fricking dropper and try not to crash. It’s not a very light bike, but I found the position actually really good. A hell of a lot of fun. 465 m vert in 15 kms of very nice singletrack.

Is that dude in the first picture eight feet tall? His headtube is longer than my arm!

Holy fuck that headtube. HY!

Damn. Every bike is a minivelo when you’re that tall.

Can you imagine drafting off him!

You’d be under the draft.

If that’s a 700c wheel, I measure ~7.25 ft.

And still looks like some bar drop with that saddle height. Probably used half of a shop roll of hose for those brakes and tandem derailleur cables. Looks like a rock lobster?

Welp, riding buddy felt the need to climb 3000 feet over 10 miles of dirt this morning. Good thing I packed a breakfast sandwich! The ride down got a little rowdy, but not too bad all things considered.
