2 minutes for each percent.
That was the average %. Was a lot steeper in parts. Usually I can clear the steep parts if I concentrate but with the piddley 26er wheels I didnt like my chances, so I walked a few metres.
I fucken love walking steep dirt climbs. 25 yo me would be ashamed.
There’s one semi technical climb I use to check my fitness. If I can clean it without being completely gassed, then I’m doing pretty good.
yeah this one has rain-bars in it, so you gotta be super focussed, even when fit. Somewhere my HR was 187. I didnt think it still went that hi.
Last minute change to WFH today so hit the local trails on my faux commute. Nice enough but still no sign of summer. Leg and arm warmers on.
This was nice yesterday.
Deep tree wells and plenty of cambered turns set to drop you into them were a good incentive to stay off my normal trails, which were quite icy and need studs until we get fresh snow. Instead I went to a different area where snowshoers+weather have helpfully packed out the trails for good hambiking.
I cant even imagine that kind of environment. Looks amazing.
Says the guy who lives in the shire
Damn. This is the dream that launched the sales of a thousand fatbikes.
Yes it is why I may try to ride my fatbike on half an inch of Texas snow (ice) today
Is that out of the Virginia Meissner trailhead?
Swampy
I did the lower half of the Idaho hot springs loop a couple years ago, here are some photos:
Another faux commute on a WFH day. Good old strava tells me I’m 11 mins slower than I was 10 years ago on the same climb. Those were the days. Check out the profile. A 400 metre climb followed by 9kms of singletrack descent, which finishes at cafe/bars of Te Aro. I didnt do that climb in the picture. I think thats mostly a walk. Found another Porcini in my new spot enroute.
Had the most excellent pedal out my front door over to my local loop today. Except instead of riding on the road and on the dirt I rode as much of the frozen canals and ponds as possible. Such a unique and fun experience, I need to get a safety spike, some rope, and make this happen more often. Too much damn fun.
