I went for a ride today and here are some photos

Speaking of which, how’s that Ned MTB association vs BMA war going?

Pretty non existent since it’s winter, but I don’t really know. I can say that what I’ve witnessed from the NATO people is almost as annoying as BMA as lots of NATO is very much of the “these are our trails, stay away boulderites” locals only mindset, which I feel is just as annoying as the BMA build all trails by the same uniform boring design with no consideration of the history of the area or who built them first, everything by the rules mindset. Neither allows for much flexibility.

There’s enough unmapped trails up here to keep the actual locals busy, if idiots on strava don’t somehow fuck those up.

im super ignorant of mtb digital tools etiquette: when youre using an informal trail, do you turn off your strava?

If there is any question about the legality of a trail, then yes…
I’ve certainly strava’d a number of trails that are gray area, but only ones that are already well known and in widely used areas. If there’s any private property or its known to be unsactioned/secret, posting a public GPS track of it is a great way to get it shut down.

Oh shit there’s one by Castle Rock (growlers) where you can see all the trails on Strava. People and their computers are pretty dumb.

“No Garmin no problem!”

Strava heat map is a legit way to find secret trails because people are dumb.
Unless you opt out of heat maps, even private activities are included.

This is how some DH trails in idaho springs got the axe.

I definitely use heatmaps to plan routes and shit like that, but 100% opt out of that shit. Highly agree: No garmin no problem.

Just got back from a ride up the hill. Saw the rescue chopper uplifting an mtber. I hope that isn’t gonna cause them to lock the trails down. I’ve never seen so many people up there in my life. It’s almost the opposite of lock-down. The weather has been insanely good tho.

weren’t those all on private property and the owners were well aware of their use?

The ones I’m thinking of started on USFS trails near Squaw Pass and then branched off thru some private mining claims.

Too many people out during daylight hours.

Rode my bmx bike on a mountain bike trail and fell more than once because it was like extreme ice skating with 65psi in the tires. But dunno how to post a video here.

rode my usual 25-ish mile road ride, starting to think its time to cut out even the short section i do on the mup. The locals are not super tuned into the whole social distancing thing.

Yeah, same here, anything resembling a MUP is busier than even the busiest summer day.
I’ve been trying to route sup and I down side streets but there are some areas that the only good option is a trail.
The one downside of Seattle side streets is that most are about 3 car widths wide and the city allows parking on both sides of the street so there is about 1 car width left over for people actually using the road for transport instead of storage which makes riding bikes down it really annoying when anyone else is coming the other way.

Starting avoiding the MUP here late last week for the same reason. Last Saturday looked like any other Saturday.

Streets are relatively empty, MUPs are as busy as ever, definitely been cutting all parks/mups/etc from my routes.
