I’ve used the PWB calculator a zillion times and have never had a problem that wasn’t caused by me measuring wrong.
I used Sapim STRONG single butt spokes on the beefy rear wheel I built for my bakfiets and they are really very strong. I rolled the bike off the kickstand with the wheel lock engaged the other day and the spoke it hit didn’t bend at all! My previous wheel had like 20 bent ass spokes.
These guys:
Duralbe! The long lost cheaper and longer lasting cousin to duraace
I have an ebike rear with Strongs, i concur that they’re totally sweet.
if nobody does this shoop soon maybe i will if i can remember
gonna start buying parts for my night moves frame in the next month or so.
i’m thinking of son + dt240 to light bicycle (700c) for the wheels. is there any obvious red flag with this, or something else i should consider?
do dt240 even come with campy cassette compatibility, i didn’t see that as an option on the site.
i had looked at onyx for the rear as well, and i’m not totally sure i need to do all that.
DT Star Ratchet has compatibility with every freehub standard ever and that will continue to be true for at least another 25 years into the future
This is a particularly interesting 700c rim option, mine should get delivered tomorrow:
We need a holy star ratchet t shirt
St. Hügi’s Fire
I put a hugi on gf bike so she can’t sneak up on me
This is exactly what I have on my Coffee Grinder. I went with the Falcon Pro rims.
I switched wheels on the campy bike and I have a spare DT campy body kicking around somewhere.
About to start building up PUB rims for my partner’s Polyvalent. She wants to do it together…probably ill advised but hopefully fun and won’t have me blowing up the relationship thread later.
Should we use Phil grease or Shimano mineral oil for spoke prep? I’ve only used grease in the past.
For science, alternate to get a mix of both and see whether one loosens or gives you grief more than the other.
Neither! Jesus Christ!
Get some proper spoke prep stuff!
Like a foolish fool, I used Phil grease for years and switching to nipple cream made building so much better and easier to get that tension up there.
Dammit I should have bought some when I bought spokes. Looks like we’re not going to get around to it tonight so I’ll see if lbs has any…they definitely don’t tho. Will not be shocked if he tries to sell me wd40.
Edit: I will be surprised if he doesn’t try to sell me wd40
Teflon pipe paste from your local Ace Hardware Workers Collective.
Looks like I can get a lifetime supply from local marine supply store
I’ve always just put a drop of 3 in 1 general household oil in each nipple for spoke prep purposes. But then again I’ve only built 4 wheels and had to retension all of them at least once.
I put a drop of 3 in 1 oil on each nipple to prevent chafing
these are amazing for carbon rims
