Is there a wheelbuilding thread yet?

how much did the nextiebois cost?

got em on an ebay sale/clearance deal for $336 for the pair, they even included tubeless valves and tape (they do so if you ask after purchasing any of the “premium” models), not sure if they still have the same deal up

258g/256g actual, built up easy and round, used nipple washers, would buy again

I built a little 20” wheel from sickbed today

Buddy wants help on a Crust Clydesdale fork set-up. Is there a disc wheel available for purchase tarck recommends? Dynamo and non-dynamo options? Otherwise, what’s good?

Finished lacing the set.

“Do these rims make my dyno look big?”

Not really, I’ve looked around. You can find some real shitty china made disc brake mag wheels on ebay but they’re not worth it, IMO.

You might be able to call Splendid or Blue Heron bikes, or some other cargo bike shop, but in all likelihood they build wheels to spec for each bike.

Whats everyone’s choice of cheap carbon rims? 650b

light-bicycle or nextie are the big names in china carbon, depends on the width you want or whether you need asymmetric or not but there are good prices to be had from either brand

I went nextie and purchased through an ebay deal and was very satisfied, rims were packaged well, had been individually inspected for weight/tolerance and each came with a little tag showing the numbers from the inspections, seemed very much like a legit business and not a “they fell out the back of a factory” situation

That’s reminding me that I still want to build up a set of crabon wheels for my stoemper. I’m still riding some take-off boat anchors.

I’m in the process of building up these and so far I’ve been pretty pleased with the quality.

Rebuilding my rim brake road wheels. Context for option 2: I barely use my brakes because I’m extremely rad and also it’s pretty flat where I ride

  • swap my current DTr460 rims onto my refurbished ck hubs
  • get some enormous Light-Bicycle aero carbon rims

i kinda hate ck hubs. i fancied myself a decent mechanic, but i never got away with only opening them once for a service. if monies allow, light bicycle to dt350, service your hubs every 5k miles or so and by service i mean clean the ratchets and realize the bearings still feel great.

I’ve got lb-dt350 on another bike, they’re great! The ck hubs are already in hand, and are looking pretty good after the factory overhaul.

This is a low priority project, I’m just trying to have stuff on hand before I need it for once

Next time just lazymail them to me for that “factory overhaul” since I know crossing that bridge is too far.

Also, lets actually ride some this fall.

I just mailed them direct once they gave me an order number. I need to get by your place to pick up a Pello for the kid, going to testride this time.

Definitely up for rides this fall, I’m slowing down my riding until the heat dissipates a little so I’ll be very ready then

Really my strangest wheel build yet, 3x 28h to the “deadender holy grail” Novatec D722SB: 130 OLD, 11 speed, disc hub, 9mm qr.

My kinda wheel build

I needed to build a pair of 700c disc wheels for updating @Rusty_Piton’s Traffic to a disco machine; I bought a pair of disc hubs at the community cycling center, a pair of Maxxis Rambler TL tires from a bikedirect link in the Deals! Deals! Deals! thread, reused the Archetypes I retired years ago (they were retired because their brake tracks were not up to the sort of gravel roads I go wandering down to get some variety on the way out of town, but with disc brakes that’s not a problem), and scrounged spokes from my big pile of used spokes:

These wheels took an embarrassingly long time to lace up. Tubeless? Fuck no, these are sizing & test drive wheels, and I don’t want to have to deal with the tire goo drying up when I go a year between projects that require 700c wheels for sizing.

I can’t believe you scrapped together a set of wheels. Especially the used spokes part. That’s impressive.
