I wanted to mount a German rack taillight (with the two bolts 50mm apart) to my rack bosses. So I made this parametric OpenSCAD model and put it on Thingverse Customizer:
You can change the inside width of the mount to fit your rack bosses, the height of the light, and the thickness of the part to fine-tune it. Then you can download the file to get it 3D printed.
This is designed to fit on barrel bosses - if you have the washer style you’ll probably have to factor in spacers. If you have bosses flush in the seatstays that don’t have parallel faces then this might work depending on how flexible your material is.
I haven’t printed one yet, if you print one let me know how it worked out.
This is awesome! How hard would it be to rotate the flanges so they are angled from the base? This would allow for a brake cable going to a cantilever. Here’s my current kludge, which basically means the light is never straight:
On the current designs in order to provide clearance on the back side for the mounting nuts I lock the narrowest boss width setting to 62mm. If I make an option for 50 or 80mm lights there’s no way to have the UI update with a new range.
What I’ll probably do is make a new design that has the arms offset from the base so you can have 50 or 80mm holes and narrower boss dimensions.
Or I could make an 80mm version that’s limited to a maximum boss dimension of 72mm.
The old rebranded SP hub on my family bike started making a ratchet noise while riding. It actually broke years ago, about 200 miles into my ownership of it. Been running it disconnected since then.
Also the other SP is starting to exhibit the same sound – a faint ratchet that I first mistook for my ancient ultegra hub needing service (it typically coasts silent). But I’m pretty sure it’s the hub. Wouldn’t be surprised since it’s been ridden so damn much over the last four years.
i feel like my shimano domino hub has a ton of drag. it’s not bearing drag. it’s like a very noticeable ratchet/clicking feel. it doesn’t really seem to slow me down but i’ve never fondled another domino so i don’t really know. is this normal?
Yes, I think so. The Shimano ones don’t have very many poles, so the rotor wants to jump forward when you hand-spin it. Once you’re moving it doesn’t seem to make any difference (certainly no difference when the lights are on.)
Mine does that too
I kinda feel a buzz in the handlebars when I’m riding but it’s not that bad
hoping it mellows out but I won’t be heartbroken if it doesn’t
