it wouldn't be tarck without a dyno thread

I left it to the default (was that your default?)

design_width = 75
design_height = 50
thickness = 4

Would you recommend a different thickness certain thicknesses for different print materials/densities?

I don’t have a recommendation yet, so that’s why I gave a couple options so people with printers could experiment.

So I guess we’ll see how it works!

it’s in the mail! Will see how it goes, can always reprint thinner and denser.

This sounds pretty good to me shartmo. It really doesn’t sound like much drag relative to the power you put in while riding

Yeah, this sounds normal for any dynamo hub up in the stand.

wtf this makes me very mad

I did a quick Lakefront Trail ride on my new road bike yesterday and about 20 miles in, a horrible buzzing and vibration began to issue from my SP hub. I thought I was fucked as I dejectedly limped home on an embarrassingly noisy bike.
When I got home, I realized that the QR had somehow loosened to the point that it was tight enough to hold the wheel on, but not tight enough to ride safely. I tightened the QR and the headset (which had also rattled loose) and the buzzing/vibration was gone.
Weird that it didn’t start happening until 20 miles, I have to assume that the QR was never tight enough as I can’t imagine a way for a properly installed QR to loosen itself without being visually obvious.
I’m glad that my hub isn’t fucked and that my wheel didn’t fall out of the fork at 20mph.

Maybe you QR-clamped it on the edge of the lawyer lips and 20 miles in the wheel set in a bit better.

No lips on this fork.
I believe this is a case of pure user error.

Picked an arm length out of thin air, way too long. Rev 2 maybe half to two thirds the length and a bit thinner. Otherwise it’s awesome. Thanks @drwelby!

The arm length is from the center of the mounting bolt to the bottom edge of the mounting flange. It’s a little harder to explain, but it best describes the clearance for a cable.

This one is 4mm at 70% density? Do you know the material? @sleve_mcdichael?

Orange :grinning:

I’ll check when I get to work

fill was 70% (setup by our machinist) 4mm width, filament was Prusa nGen according to the sticker on the spool. According to google this is Eastman Amphora™ AM3300 .

flexural modulus of 1.8 GPa (compared to 200 GPa for steel) means it should really plane

fuck me, datasheet even lists Izod impact (assuming for bulk material) can 3D print Izod specimin and see how close to that a printed part can get (i’m way tooo busy for this level of nerdery RN, maybe later). goddamnit i have work to do, had to download the ASTM (D 256 incase anyone cares) to confirm the Izod equipment is teh same as the metals one i use, and it looks close enough, no i can try to get some work done.

@blakey will be pleased to know it can withstand temperatures up to 85°C

i’m mostly a metallurgist* not a plasticurgist but it beats proper work RN

*well actually a materials engineer with a 4th year project in “the coordination of dopants in stabilised cubic zirconia using Mössbauer spectroscopy” although more properly a 2nd to 3rd year project in dope smoking

I may be completely nuts but I think either my SON or Edelux 1 is dying.

No weird noises or extra drag but I swear the light seems dimmer and possibly cut out (or was it off and I just noticed it as it was getting dark then futzed with the switch?). Both have at least 15k miles.

Fred, what’s the failure mode for this kind of thing?

If the light is crapping out, does anyone have direct experience comparing edelux 2 and the IQ-x?

Hopefully it’s just the connection. Try putting on another coax or whatever they put on that nude beach light.

LOL

I had cut outs on mine before it made any noises, but they were papered over and made confusing by the Luxos U standlight filling the gaps in function well enough most of the time. I’ve also fucked up my hub connectors before.

Edelux 2 is literally just an aluminum Cyo Premium

Welp, My Luxos U finally had its first rebooting freakout where it keeps turning off and on and off and on while the power button does nothing. Hung it up and let it exhaust the battery cache, haven’t turned it on since.
This was after leaving it outside for two days of rain while camping.

Love the Luxos U but damn are they finicky.
Can’t quit that beautiful wide beam pattern.

The Luxos isn’t really all that waterproof, is it? Yours is no where near the only complaint I’ve seen about those things becoming large sponges.

It probably has something to do with the switch / usb dongle letting moisture into the enclosure. Still my favorite lamp by leaps and bounds despite its flaws.

I’ve seen the Luxos reboot freakout on at least 3 other lamps in rainy/crashed conditions.
