Thirding 12 unless you have some sort of obscure deadender fetish, and if you do, I have a dyno wheel to sell you.
Go on
Braden told me the forx due in March are 12
This is correct. New fork is 12mm, flat mount, and hella lighter.
ShartQ:
Anyone on here opened up an Edelux?
I just noticed there’s condensation inside mine. Can I open it and try to find where the leak is and seal it? Seems possible?
Dew it
What is the current good dynamo
T-A or q/r?
For q/r, I can personally vouch for a lot of the Shimano ones and the SON 28 (both the old tincan & the new billiard ball.)
For t/a, the Shimano ur705 is supposed to be really good, but I can’t vouch for it until I get off my butt and build a t-a’ed fork.
If you want a wheel that’s particularly good for hand to hand combat, the old S-A Dynohub™ produces enough power to drive an IQ Cyo and can be used (but not at the same time) to crush your enemies.
I think SON still wins for light-off efficiency, but when drawing power Shimano is competitive with SON. I’m sure there’s a link to charts of speed vs drag somewhere up this thread.
I have two wheels with these and v happy with them so far.
Oh I’m sorry, current good dynamo lamp
Cyo Premium.
SON Edelux II if you care about aesthetics.
There are lots of other okay options but they won’t be as good in terms of brightness, optics, or standlight. I’m not sure if there are any noteworthy new entrants to the market in the last year.
I’m curious what people think of current offerings from Trelock. I had one on a bike I sold a couple of years ago, it was pretty decent. Cargo bike, though, so I have no idea how much drag it produced.
I’ve got a spare Cyo Premium in my bin if you’re dithering in that direction.
I suspect the legions of engineers who specialize in StVZO bike lights have been focused on ebike lights these days rather than those powered by hub dynamos.
The market offerings for dynamo light with integrated charger are severely limited. There are 3 that I can find.
Has anyone used the sinewave revolution or the b+m e-werk?
Trelock LS-905 is a solid light and comes in matchy matchy colors
If you track down backstock of the AXA Luxx, while it has a built in charger the beam pattern is pretty shit
The only other new-ish offering of interest is Spanninga’s reboot of the Phillips Safelight called the Axendo 60. Also has excellent optics.
Honestly though the IQ Cyo Premium still rules for bang to buck.
Our mutual friend just got a b&m usb-werk that he is pretty happy with, but no brevet testing yet.
With cables it is 65g or something, and you need to turn the light off for it to charge a phone for computer.
He mounted it in the right rear rando bag pocket, and it has a quick disconnect so it can live in the bag permanently.
