… I don’t understand?

Has heine done any recent tests on electro hubs?

The one I read years ago encouraged me to ignore the differences because they’re all pretty small impact outside and fathers sanyo — regardless of how the wheel feels on the stand.

I think the Alee Denham bike tour bro did some really comprehensive testing recently.

Fuck man I had so many car bros chase me down to tell me my headlight was on when I was using the ferry regularly. No shit dude, I leave it on all the time but unlike your headlights I don’t need a battery to start my vehicle.

Cyclingabout has such a weird feel. It’s too slick like solely an aggregator for ad revenue but then the technical articles appear to be robust :man_shrugging:

Thank you for that article. Looks like I can add another minute or two to my snack breaks if I turn my lights off.

By selectively turning your lights off on a 400k you can earn enough time to go buy a sandwich to eat on the bike.

I was chatting to Kerry Staite last night about his new “low-drag” light. I don’t know how it works but it is optimised for the SON deluxe. Anecdotally I can feel a difference between my SP and my buddies SON, when its not connected, but cant feel anything when roilling. He shared some pix of his ebike and a DIY battery pack he did with Tesla 50e batteries. 2000 charge cycles compared to the 200-300 of the 18650’s that you typically get in ebike battery packs, he reckons.

He’s k-lites, right?

Yip. No horizontal cut-offs on his stuff so not legal in some places I imagine.

Are there laws in the land of freedom that restrict bike lights?

I think its a thing in euro-land eh? Not in the antipodes tho.

ebike batteries are usually only good for ~300 charges???

I tried turning my lights off recently for basically the first time and unfortunately, the difference is super noticeable on my bike (novatec hub, as crappy as they come). Haven’t ridden with daytime lights since

I could definitely tell a difference between light on and off with the SP hub I used to own. But that hub was more draggy with the light off than the UR705 hub with the light on.

Good riddance to that hub.

It sounded weird to me too. I’ve got 18650s I must have charged many times, and that’s after they were pulled out of laptop power packs in their first life.

should be closer to at least 500 full charge/discharge cycles (not going to 0% capacity obv. most smart systems are designed to not dip that low) depending on mfr. and “good” is usually defined as still holds >x% of original capacity, which i think is often defined as 80% but don’t quote me

Yeah i think it’s the 20/80% rule and the good ones will keep the charge within that range. 7104 18650’s in the original Tesla’s, so when one of them dies, What happens? It’s hard to imagine pulling out the power pack and replacing one, altho I know you can replace banks of batteries in the Priuis.

I would want to reckon that the battery management system is absolutely exquisite and does a lot to keep them balanced, but for sure that’s a lot of cells and one of them is sure to die sooner than the other. Maybe there’s some accounting for that in the design and BMS
