Yes. There’s quite a bit of speculation that what he did to train pre-1996 led to his cancer diagnosis.
It’s possible, depending on what he was doing. There is some debate about whether HGH can increase the risk of cancer. In any case, he would’ve had to have lost the genetic lottery in that regard and the likelihood of remission would’ve been high assuming he continued using the same drugs post cancer treatment.
Would his cancer doc, the one he paid off to never mention what was said during the Andreu hospital visit, have any insight? If tissue samples were stored, could the latest technology allow insight into the environmental factors that helped make it possible? I’m definitely no oncologist, but doesn’t taking different substances that directly impact one’s hormones essentially cause one to play the russian roulette game we all play with potentially developing malignancy, just that much faster? Maybe even like using loaded dice versus normal dice? Perhaps his ‘conservative’ label for the doping program used at US Postal is code for avoiding those drugs (himself, but maybe not teammates?) and only focusing on those least likely to cause remission? Maybe remission is still in his future?
