KrptominiU, the more expensive one.
Masterlock Chain acquired somehow and use it when I’m riding with family or people who don’t have a lock with them. keeps a lot of bikes together.

I’ve got the cheaper onguard mini. It works great, but the paint on the shackle flaked off really early, exposing the non-stainless steel which promptly started to oxidize. I wrapped it with old bar tape. I may do this will all my u-locks from now on because it protects the frame and I think it looks pretty cool. Also, it is slightly larger than the Krypto mini, which means it’s a slightly tighter fit in the pocket. Not a big deal, but it means no more quick whip-outs to take off car mirrors.
I’m a little surprised at the number of you who pocket your locks. I did this for a while but destroyed 3 pairs of jeans in a year, then eventually I won one of these in a race:
I wouldn’t have gone out and bought it, but in using a free one I’ve decided it’s an actual useful product and not just a superfluous fixter accessory. More comfortable than pocketing and has saved me from blowing out pockets on 2-3 jeans in the short time I’ve been using it.
I just tuck my lock in the back of my waistband. Riding with it in my pocket just seems painful and prone to falling out.

I use that or their half belt. It’s really comfortable, and fits a ulock, e-kit, cell phone, and wallet nicely.
I use 2 U Locks and have never had a situation where I couldn’t lock up. A mini-u will fit around a sign post and through the rear wheel. A regular sized U will fit around a parking meter for a Sheldon Brown style rear lock. I would never bother with a chain.
I made my own lock holster thing on the waist pack thing i made.
Works good.
I use the Kripto mini most days or some bigger Kripto for the Xcheck.
I tried to use a Freight hip pouch to hold my lock. I hated it. Never had a problem with my pants. Of course i don’t wear nice pants on my bike either. $10 at the thrift store for a new pair every few months ain’t so bad.
I lock my bike up with an old ball of twine and some twist ties. Hasn’t been stolen yet.
+1 on the tin foil in the allen heads.
Well, tbird, I mean spokez come with allen bolts. Can you put those on a regular axle?
I want to make seven sided nuts. Only problem is you’d need to carry your own wrench everywhere.
Some company makes lugnuts like that. Pretty smart idea
I think most higher end track hubs should also come with allen bolts, or at least should be able to be swapped to them. I have a Phil in the back and that came with allen bolts.
Correct me if I’m wrong though. I don’t really look around at hubs.
I’ve never seen any hubs that are interchangeable. Allen requires a male bolt and female hub* (usually cartridge bearing). 15mm requires a female nut and male hub. Totally different system. A high end hub might use either.
I’m a fan of allen keys personally, so long as replacement bolts are available. The required tools are smaller and lighter.
*for the lack of a better descriptive system.

yep my phil came with allens. i have a QR in the front that i’d like to switch to bolts
quick run down:
krypto mini but not super mini. It’s small but big enough for your wheel, downtube, and a pole.
either use that method or do the rear triangle sheldon method. look it up if you dont know it.
as for locking wheel bolts and also headset caps, take a bb or a ball bearing and super glue that shit in the allen key slot. it would take a thief a good 10 minutes to chisel it out and it still wouldnt work. But whenever you need to change out your wheel or work on your stem/headset area all you need is a bit of nail polish remover. Pour a tiny bit in with the super glue and bb and in 30 seconds it’s all gone and you can just dump out the bb. Simple and super effective.
you’ve done this? I ask because it sounds like a really good idea, but I don’t want to spend 10 minutes digging that shit out because no one actually tried it.
It’s commonly done.
Still got the pouch? Wanna get ride of it?
I’ve got a krypto mini (and a full size that rarely sees any use). Just stuff the mini lock in your belt and you’re set, no more torn/worn back pockets.

nah, I still use it sometimes. It’s great for holding my manifest in a race. I just don’t keep my lock in it.
Hey guys
Whats the best lock for beating the shit out of uppity cagers
?
