No thanks, my Somas are already scratched up.
plastic ones feel nicer on my feet since i just wear sneakers when i ride.
This is exactly how I feel. I actually enjoy a lot of cycling-specific clothing like the SWRVE shants and hoodies and even sometimes lycra shorts (under a skirt), but only because they’re all really casual and comfortable on or off the bike. Cycling shoes on the other hand are pretty purpose-built.
There is something kind of awesome when you see a cute girl wearing SIDIs though. I met a girl a couple years ago that was pretty serious about riding fixed and I almost bought shoes and pedals after…
I didn’t vote, 'cause both serve specific purposes for me real well. I’ve got the oppy XX quad gates on my Trek, and they hold my feet real tight with two straps for faster summer riding. I’ve got some co-op found plastic clips with nylon straps on my winter bike, 'cause they don’t rust.
i have metal ones with leather around the front, and those kick ass for me, because the only complaint with metal ones are they’re uncomfortable.
i’ve broken more metal than plastic, but i still put my vote in for metal

omg yes. i saw a girl wearing light blue sidis once. unfortunately i was walking so i couldn’t woo her with my arrospok.
anyways, yeah. plastic clips are easier to make doublers for, since you can slip a figure-8 piece of duct tape in the space between the two gates. plus i’m not as scared of them scratching up my shoes, on the off chance i have something nice on my feet. i did have problems with one beginning to break apart where they screw on to the pedal, though.
oops.

post whore
This thread inspired me to put some pedals with clips + straps on my bike because I was bored and I had a pair of em and a pair of regular shoes here at the office.
Then I rode like five miles to a couple buildings to make lists and then I remembered why I have clipless on all my bikes except the xtra.
Needless to say, the SPDs are back on my bike.
oh yea when I first got my Bianchi I used the 105 pedals and the plastic clips that the seller tossed in. I had a hell of a time getting the pedals to flip so I’m sure this is all user error, but 1st ride it took me a block or so to get into the clips and by that time the scraping had already broken one plastic clip. A week later the second clip did the same thing. I’ve finally switched to different pedals and metal wellgo clips now with 0 problems.
I have plastic clips and Toshi singles on my bike. I used to use metal ones but the allways break, they are totally uncomfortable if you are wearing anything but the thinnest shoes, and they fuck up my shoes worse than plastic. I have yet to break a plastic clip and the ones I have were like $5 so I bought 4 pairs.
switched back to metal clips for 2 minutes. were totally uncomfortable in regular shoes due to tight ass toe area.
I don’t know what you people are doing to break metal clips outside of straight up trashing them against the ground repeatedly. I had the same steel MKS set on some touring pedals for years and they were fine. If they don’t fit the toe box of your shoes you can adjust them easily enough.
tricks…duh!
crank arm length?
the 170’s i have wreck shop on the metal cages
170’s. How long do you ride out of them? Usually if I don’t get in them right away it’s easy enough to flip into them within the first 100 feet or so.

omg guyz qwit drinking grant peterzonz kool-aid, y’all are brainwashed.
p.s. yes to cute girl in sidis.
Do they make plastic clips that fit size 13 shoes? I only ever see tiny ones.

What brand are you using? I think the reason I pulled mine off of the pedal while I was skidding is because I didn’t have washers or anything behind the nuts when I mounted them, so they just ripped through the mounting holes.[/quote]
The same thing happened to me when I was forced to ride my plastic clips. Just throw some washers in between and they won’t be able to pull through the bolts. Also, it probably goes without stating but don’t ever ride alloy clips. I snapped an MKS alloy clip right where the clip mounts to the pedal after only about a week of riding. Steel double clips are definitely optimal, but plastic gets the job done fine in my experience.
