It just accelerates the current state of the relationship. Sometimes thatâs good, sometimes thatâs bad. I consider myself fortunate in this regard, because after 8 years of tandem riding, all my personal records for longest distance, most climby rides are on the tandem, where before they were all solo.
I think these shared accomplishments are way more valuable than if my partner had been on an e-bike for all of that. In fact, it wouldnât have been feasible in a lot of cases.

Tandeming was a complete disaster in our case. She was so tense we had to stop every 10 mins cos her ass was so sore. Her on the ebike works way better, as she is in control. She turns it off or on as she likes.

feels like a thing that has come so full circle that the thing that looks like a knockoff of the knockoff/rebadge of the rebadge is maybe the original thing again. hard to tell whoâs eating whoâs lunch.

My longest ride ever is on the tandem with my wife.
My longest ride this month was on a cargo bike that the child calls âthe tandemâ.

Wife and I borrowed a tandem but she is very anxious and we ended up returning it after a day. Maybe if she steers: Iâm happy to put my head down and push real hard on the pedals.

Iâd be into trying a tandem where sup has e-assist up front and I just check into my accommodations in the stoker pain cave. Would be a medium up front and XL in the back.
She wants me to get a front loader cargo thing and let her ride up front after a glass of wine.

Tandem definitely didnât click for a while but over time trust was built. I think an electric motor would be a nice addition for uphills since itâs hard to synchronize effort, but otherwise speed isnât too hard to come by.
Honestly I think the effects of sharing the load are similar to a slight e-assist for each member of the tandem
