I am confused
It tells you when itâs time to take the freshly baked brake pads out
is that a one and done? like for cold chain?
Those temperatures arenât even that hot
Yeah one and done, so if it cools down later in your run or whatever you still have a record of the max temp achieved.
Tuned Mass Damper supposedly. Thereâs been a few of those bolted onto bikes the last year or so.
Yeah lots of those shits around. If I ever see one in a bike park and it isnât a pro doing testing Iâm gonna laugh. I once had one of these fail on my Honda Element. Thought the rear diff was exploding but it was just the damper (simply a metal rod) rattling inside its hanger after the rubber bushing holding it had disintegrated.
Is it like the âbrainâ unit on my old Specialized Epic?
theyâre both an inert thing jiggling in a container
âbrainâ was a little ball bearing moving to block or unblock an oil passage to control the compression damper circuit on the rear shock
these mass dampers are a heavy lump of metal sliding back and forth to directly absorb the energy from a hit instead of your bike bouncing with your arms/legs compensating for the energy
tuned mass dampers are also âtunedâ to control specific harmonics in the complete system, so for a race bike where all variables are known they can be helpful, but something like using a different tire on a regular-person bike would make the TMD ineffective at best
Pretty common on race motorcycles, riding at crazy high speeds where all sorts of telemetry data is collected. IDK about the effectiveness on a bicycle but I suppose if you can gather enough data on certain hits on a certain course it could work.
how are these so cheap?
Damn thatâs a fucking attractive price
My guess is cheap QR Novatec wheels, âRadavist Approvedâ Microshift, and basic 4130 doesnât really add up to much, so price it sub-bong and build customer base
