Always surprised I don’t hear more about this, but it came up for me in Robin Shute’s latest video:
Three for three so far.
One was a little touch and go because there was not enough exposed post for the tool to fill grab, so we ended up letting that one soak with PB blaster a few days first. But it eventually worked.

Ack, my vanity project of matchy NFE & NFZs was derailed by recently building up a perfectly good PBJ. Still, cool to see the Glen/John/Alex hive mind awakened into new mixed-terrain frame offerings. Wish I’d known NFZ was in the pipeline sooner…

my partner just put a pbj together and it seems like such a sweet bike
Just did a big off road weekender with a bud on a PBJ. It’s a much bigger and burlier bike than I expected, and it’s rad af.

MvDP and Phillipsen are both running road 1x setups with XTR rear derailleurs, if that gives you any idea how far along next gen DA is…

Did last year’s TdF have 1x?
Plenty of teams used them last year (and presumably will again this year), it’s mostly just that all the Shimano teams that want to do so have to improvise with aftermarket stuff since Shimano has no chainrings or official support for it.
12s DA is undoubtedly good, but the big S is really sleeping these days.

My guess is that they are not true believers. And wont admit that it doesn’t matter if something has a shit chainline and larger gaps between the gears, if the market wants it, the market must have it. Ultimately probably their own fault for tying up the patents that allow front shifting to work properly thus making sram go 1x. That’s my conspiracy.
