New & Interesting Bike Campenaerts

I wish I could  that photo more than once

Is that reflection magic or did you treat those fenders somehow?

Thanks! It was a color-shift paint. The proof-of-concept was a Plasti Dip Chameleon color… when I get time this winter I’m going to peel it off and respray with an automotive paint. (It took a while to find a decent spray gun that works on a consumer air compressor.)

It looks like it’s made of balloons. I love it.

that’s a little known fact about framebuilders, when they retire they become extremely niche balloon artists. Such a shame we couldn’t hear Dario speaking passionately about l’anima della gomma to a confused party of schoolchildren.

Khameleon Kru!

I occasionally miss this frame. But I also haven’t raced track in forever.

You don’t have to race on a track to have a sweet fixie

That frame doesn’t have room for fenders, though, and it looks like it has toe overlap like whoa, so it would be less than optimal for an environment where you might have to get the front wheel out of the way of filth in a hurry.

This is some truth right there, here’s my example of just that:

The new 2019 hamlets arrived and I picked one up.
Already found some manufacturing flaws but I kinda love it. Helmet includes removable ear warmers which were nice and toasty, maybe too warm for normal cycling in moderate temperatures but perfect for the electric cargo bike because lower effort & higher speeds = chilly commute.
Wore it last night through some light rain and it kept my face surprisingly dry.
Also happy to discover it comes with a Fidlock magnetic chinstrap.

The biggest missed opportunity: putting a fixed rubber windshield wiper across the brim so that when your windshield accumulates too many droplets you can retract the windshield which would wipe it, then pull it down again to keep using.

If anyone is interested in the manufacturing defects:

  • Helmet has an inner shell and outer shell that are supposed to make contact but the fixture that keeps them bonded near the ear is double sided tape. One of them is out of spec enough that they don’t want to make contact and easily overcome the double sided tape bonding. This wouldn’t be a big deal but the ear pads rely on this close fit so that their tab can slide up in the middle of the shell sandwich and hook on to an indent.
  • Rubber nose piece on the windshield uses really shitty glue and one side peeled off the first time I pulled the shield down. They probably should have attached a tab or slider to more easily deploy the windshield

motorcycle gloves sometimes have a little strip of rubber on the left glove for wiping your facemask, might be a good solution if you can find some light ones.

Nice, I was just telling sup about how I went to a large boating supply store in Seattle seeking some neoprene deck gloves with a windshield wiper attached but the person working there looked at me like I was crazy.
Good to hear that the motorcycle folx have this problem sorted.

It’s a cool helmet, but it kinda feels like they’re reinventing the moped helmet. Of course, ebikes are reinventing the moped, so it kinda resonates nicely?

I’ve seen snowboarding gloves with this feature as well.

Looks like there are also some DIY solutions:

Yeah, was just gonna say a short section of car wiper blade + an elastic loop to keep it on your finger might work.

Just litter tear offs all along your commute. 100% Laminated Tear-Offs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007HIGFVQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_DWo0BbT5V5F3A

would you like this helmet on a bike that you had to pedal?
i am considering something like this for winter commuting here, when my ears are always cold.
or is it too heavy/weirdly shaped?
