Official remember that time Blazedelf was talking about that thing that one time but can't find the thread, thread.

when I was in voc school I put a bevel on some titanium bmx pegs, it was a huge pain in the ass to work with - but you can set the shavings/chips on fire and they burn brilliantly white.
I did it! I don’t have a Guide per se, but here’s what I did.

You basically file/dremel/lathe (in order of most meatball to least meatball) the bits of metal that the cassette butts up against on the freehub body by 1.85mm, or as close as you can get; what you need to remove becomes apparent when you look at it, but it’s hard to describe through text. This gets you just the right amount of room for the larger cassette.

I did it on an m785 rear hub with perfectly fine results, by sharpieing a mark on each stop in the correct width to act as a guide and then dremeling out the marks. Just go slow and be precise.

Really wanna do this on my 7700 rear hub too, but I should probably get that done on a lathe because titanium
Nice. Thanks!

I started working on the hub that I have, but my dremel is old, and the battery lasted like 10 minutes. It might take me a few sessions, but it seems like it’s gonna work out.

Fred, how do you like the Jones bars on your Elephant? What are you shifting with? Any other bar suggestions for an upright rando?

i asked fred this a while ago. he said something along the lines of “you need a shorter stem as the reach is farther than you expect”

nitto albatross?

I was thinking more along the lines of Jitensha or map/ahearne

using SRAM X9 shifters

went from 42cm Deda Deeps with a -10x130 stem to the 66cm Jones with +10x110

the steering is very very active unloaded with the narrow Jones bars, I wouldn’t go wider nor would I want to use them with a choad stem

the multi-position thing does work when you start from a road bike fit, but honestly I’m gonna switch back to drop bars as soon as I can get them out of ex-sup storage and rebuild the bike

Fred, do you still have a secret source for Sugino ox601?

nah the cheap australian source dried up again

I saw a UK site that is restocking them in October supposedly - I think their price was going to be 260 US? Hubjub or something it was called.

Alexcycle in Japan may be it at the moment

Fred, do you mind breaking down the difference between 8/901 and 601 besides the polish? How does the 601 spacing work with 11 spd chains?

601/801 works fine with 11sp

unlike some other nerd cranks, no problems with 11s chains

8/901 just have ugly polish

I think the spindle might have been different before the recall

But that’s just compact, right?
My rawland is already rocking a 46-34 on non-series 105 crank.

no it’s a 110/74 double

but for some fucking reason a bunch of the retailers only sell them with 34t inner rings

I guess because people like Miguel will still buy them

Yeah but now I’m 48/34

ISO pics of front rack with a triangular platform that I assume Colin built?

@lantius built one for himself

Alex Wetmore started it with the one he built for his “Ivy-T”

Just want to say I live one block from a street called “Blaisdell” and I say “Blazedelf” in my head every time.

that’s the most normal spelling http://www.blaisdell.org/

$15 a year for that??
