platform pedalsss?

I’ve got these on my rigid 29er and they’re grippy as fuck. Really happy with them

If you’re looking for burly-ass BMX/MTB style platforms, I’ll +1 the Odyssey plastic BMX flats recommendation. If you’re looking for something that will take toe clips, I love the shit out of my MKS Sylvan Lites. They’re kinda hard to find, but they’re like a cross between a GR-9 and a Sylvan, with the clearance of a GR-9 for pedaling through corners, but without the irritating habit of having the bit that the toe clip attaches to breaking off.

Ben’s has them for like $26.

backing the plastic easterns posted above.
but if it’s for mtb, i’d reccomend some with metal pins because plastic pedals + water/mud isn’t exactly a confidence inspiring combination

those easterns blow. they lose their grip so damn quick and in the rain theyre a death trap.

animal plastics and the premium jawns are super grippy. anything clear just feels super brittle and shitty

seconding jeff edamers grip king reccomendation. I got a pair for my wife and the seem pretty rad. also handsome.

What’s the current consensus on Tarck-approved value flat pedals? VP? Anything cheaper worth buying?

VP if you’re using em bare, any of the cheapo plastic ones if you’re using feetbelts IMO

VP Vice for any bike you don’t get rad on.

You’ll want some concave for shreddin’.

VP Harriers here

I’ve always bought bmx pedals that I find online on sale. Stolen Bikes and Odyssey have treated me well, nice wide, concave shapes, they often come in crazy colours too. spending more than like 40bucks on a flat pedal seems a little ridiculous atmo.

I wouldn’t recommend the Wellgo Xpedo as mine did this last night. Fortunately near the end of my commute:

What about platform/clipless hybrids? I’ve read nothing but good things about these, other than them not having great grip…which could be remedied with some DIY pins.

Any others that people love? My crank brothers mallets finally fell apart.

there’s the a530 too, smaller platform than the xt tho.

I’ve been riding the M324 clipless/platform pedals on my LHT for a couple years now. I’ve got mixed feelings… If you have a shoe that matches up with the platform side, then riding the platform side is just fine. On the other hand, they don’t mate up with as many shoes as something like a BMX pedal would. I was wearing some sandals that didn’t match with platform side one time and when I tried to stand on the pedals I slipped off and ate shit. Sneakers are fine though. Other thing is that the platform side doesn’t have much wet grip. That’s an easy solution though, just wear bike shoes and use the clipless side any time it looks like it will rain. I keep thinking of swapping them out for some plastic BMX pedals but I want to go clipless just often enough that I leave them be.

there’s even a few companies that have composite/plastic pedal bodies with metal pins.

here’s some for 14$, in requisite funky colours https://www.danscomp.com/products/465269/Stolen_Thermalite_SP_Pedals.html

I like those t780s quite a bit, but I almost never use the clip side.

I had one pair that had a broken spindle but JensonUSA warrantied it with no question.

Don’t buy plastic pedals unless you have a reason for them. Winter, velcro holdfast style straps, or grinding on a BMX bike are the only valid reasons.

Otherwise, metal.

saddle height always felt wrong for me on both sides of platform/clipless. maybe I just never found the sweet spot

I like the xt T780 jawnz. Flat side isn’t grippy, but totally adequate for tootling to and fro in tactical sandals. Wish I had bought them years ago.
