i laughed when the commentators talked about how absurdly low their gearing was at 36-30
Knew a dude who used to race in the 8s era with a 42 small ring. He told me their climbing gearing was the one with the 23 on it. And if you had to shift all the way to the 23 you were definitely losing.
As a 24 year old fresh into the sweet fixie scene, I was suitably unimpressed and let my displeasure be known that derailleurs are even allowed in racing.

My first road bike’s front small was a 42. And the big one on the back was a 21. But tough guys rode a 19. I’ve had the best coverage ever this year. Paid $5 a month for the Mozilla VPN and I watch the 52 minute highlights on SBS from Aussie. Pretending I’m in Melbs !
Edit. That TT was wicked. Love me a good TT, although I’d rather do one than watch one…

Loved it. And I loved that the bike change had to be part of the strategy. It’s probably because I also like car racing and pit stop strategy, timing, and skill are so important.

I’m bummed that the NBC extended highlights on YouTube didn’t show any bike changes. They never even mentioned it. Folks just started on tt bikes and finished on road bikes like no one would notice.

for the TT? unless i watched an entirely different NBC highlights package, it was definitely there. they were even talking about it as a build up, how Roglic might stay on his TT bike if Pogacar stayed on his, then they repeated Roglic’s switch a few times because it was kinda sloppy and his assisted start might have been longer than 5 seconds
I might have completely missed it, but I remember being surprised when Wout came across the line on a road bike they didn’t say anything.
This is what I’ve been watching. It begins with Wout’s start and only shows snippets of 4-5 riders.
