Don’t put your face in front of it? I’ve never seen this happen in over 20 years.
i’m not THAT worried about it but it’s still not something i would like to happen to me. it’s not like i’ve got protective cages on top of my fork crown
Someone will read this one day in the future and think, what’s a fork crown? What’s air? Humans were weird…
probably more likely to shoot out the bottom of the fork leg. i feel like i’ve seen that?
I’ve seen someone snap off the bottom of an air shaft servicing a fork, but it was a single air spring so it just trashed the cartridge without doing anything exciting. Also seen fork lowers break and crack, only on coil forks because that’s what we had for trail bikes back then.
That third rail will get you every time
Does it count as asploded if I did it on purpose?
The bottom bracket on this crankset, after a few thousand miles of fixie lyfe, started to disintegrate, and after a few rides with a chorus of newly loosened bearings rattling around in the BB, I decided that I’d swap out the BB for another one.
At least that was the plan. The endcap had corroded into place, so when I attempted to unscrew it the socket (aluminum, of course, because that’s a metal that’s known for being super-robust) immediately rounded out and became unusable.
I didn’t want it to be lonely, so I made the rest of the godforsaken crankset unusable as well.
And now my sweet fixie has an ox801d with a 48t ring (biopace, as G-d & Sheldon intended) and this thing (sans pedals) is on the way to the recycling facility.
Is that a massive fatigue crack on the dark brown looking part of the crankarm? Or a trick of the light and just where you hacked it off.
A trick of the light + where I snapped off the arm after I’d gotten most of the way through it
This reminds me of all the fun arc-flash safety videos I’ve watched. This one in particular is a work of art.
so terrifying. hotter than the surface of the sun in many cases but also vaporized metal!
Maybe that was an e-bike and that was the battery assploding?
I say it was a mercy killing and asploded is asploded.
I think the combination of the two
Didn’t see myself being back here so soon
Oh no!
Doesn’t problem solvers or someone make a kit to fix that? I’ve seen threaded bushings and basically a huge T-nut to fix this.
Man I have no idea. I’ll see if I can dig it up. Wouldn’t mind getting new cranks either, but I am clueless as to what’s a worthwhile replacement. And what the heck is Raceface CINCH?!
Just race face stuff. What’s the rest of the bike like? I’m sure someone here has a spare crankset.
