Say it ain't so: The Assploded Bike Parts Picture Thread.

turns out I need campy part rd-at009, which is conveniently sold out at branford bike, but I at least know a buncha 8 and 9 speed stuff (Athena, Veloce, Mirage, and Avante) used it

Not assploded, but get a load of these shitty chainring bolts.

Only been on my bike for a year or so. No idea where I got them either, so can’t blame anyone but myself.

Pros, they’re just like us

It’s a minor assplode, probably got grabbed by one of the many fallen branches I poorly rode over last night.

Not quite assploded but here’s the underside of my spraybike’d top tube ~20 months after I used a wire wheel to strip off the bubbly rust that had been there prior.

I kinda didn’t expect the spray bike paint to last because all indications are that it isn’t meant to, but trying to decide how much I should be worried about this rust this time around. Looks kinda like surface rust, and it is an LHT, so maybe no big deal? Part of me has been wanting to build a new super-commuter but the more practical part of me wants to keep squeezing every last drop out of this bike.

Does your worry about the rust outweigh the amount of work it takes to clean and prep it again for new paint? I say if the answer is no then roll with it. I am also prone to riding rusty bikes for quite a while until I finally get fed up enough to strip and repaint.

I’m also guessing that I am more likely than many to ride a rust bucket especially if it primarily a commuter bike.

I wouldn’t worry about that but if if you do, strip it again and use some actual real spray paint. Spray.bike is garbage atmo.

I wouldn’t say I’m worried enough about it to repaint it again lol. It looks like a little surface rust in a place where the shitty paint was probably thinnest and shittiest. I haven’t been sweating all over it like I did when I had the bad rust before and it isn’t specific to that spot so I think it’s relatively innocuous but I wanted to post it again in case somebody else freaked out about it

I’m sort of curious to shop around again and see if there are any interesting framesets that I could buy new and swap LHT parts to but the answer last year was NO and I’m sure it’s the same now

You can have my Traffic which has WAY more rust if you want.
And also is a single speed.

Kinda hard to tell what’s going on but this is a brake I installed on one of my client’s fleet bikes in August. It’s supposed to get looked at every other week but somehow it’s slipped through the cracks since August because they kept moving it to different distro hubs. Pads so worn that the pistons popped out of the caliper. Have only seen this a few times, and never after only a few months.

We’ve got a gusher folks!!

I pulled out my rack yesterday so I could ride back from dropping car off for an oil change. I noticed it was not working as fluidly as it normally does. Then later that night I did a closer inspection. This thing is overbuilt to hell and a pretty crude device, but some mofo in something very big and high must have brushed past it, you can’t really see the damage here due to parallax but it is very thick plate metal. I have no idea how long ago it happened. I use it rarely.

You don’t stay for the coffee?

The coffee shop next door makes these things they call Pig Newtons. It’s basically a biscuit wrapped around two sausages. They have a vegetarian version, too.

We are having a vegan Xmas and I need a recipe for devil’s on horse back. Or pigs in blankets. Based around a vegan sausage. Was gonna use eggplant but thinking my main dish will be eggplant.

We caught one failure, one near failure, and one with zero issues so far. Not good.

I’ve got some Whisky Spano bars I’ve been procrastinating on installing as a result.
