Say it ain't so: The Assploded Bike Parts Picture Thread.

Front brake was feeling funky and rubbing. Bit on the way home. I figured that the pads were roached or something but when I pulled the wheel, the bottom caliper fixing bolt was just gone!

Kinda wild to discover. I wonder how long I’ve been riding around like this.

Eep, that is your bullitt as well… reminds me to buy some loctite

Yeah. The bolt I replaced the missing one with was unused and had locktite on it. I should replace the top one too. I can’t believe this wasn’t a catastrophic failure.

I am glad there was no catastrophic failure!

guess there’s a reason Shimano packages those extra bolt retention thingies with their brakes…

i assume you have threadlock at home right?

I do now! I gotta assume it was on that bolt to begin with but who knows.

usually factory applied is like a nylon patch rather than methacrylate anaerobic curing threadlock. loctite type threadlock doesn’t begin to harden until there are metal ions present and no air. it’s neat stuff!!

id also recommend keeping some purple in stock for when you want a little bit of holding power but not as much as blue provides

I think I’m getting panaracered over here.

That’s a tire with like 200 miles on it and no punctures.

That must be a heavy bike for the tire to depress like that.

ITYM repairable plastic bikes. Easier to repair than metal bikes sometimes.

Sometimes. Would a metal bike abrade to the point of danger during a gravel race?

Yes. I’ve seen frames of all materials done in by mud or tire rub.
