Say it ain't so: The Assploded Bike Parts Picture Thread.

yep a thin layer of branding by Merry Sales

Yokozuna started as Japanese brake housing but is now generic chinese catalog clones of Tektro products

TANGE tubing labels are actually a Maxway competitor in Taiwan that bought the defunct brand

Tanaka is their clones of Honjo, Wald, King Cage

IRD is kinda their Salsa in that it had been a company before, but now is their knockoffs of Paul and Sugino with no relation to the original better brake designs

Kasai Dynacoil is also theirs, buying from the machine shop vendor that fucked over Shutter Precision years ago to kick off that quality crisis and made SP start over

This is good shit

I’ve really wanted to like Soma but have been burned a few times. This all sorta makes sense.

That’s impressive!

So this goddamn XT shifter is going in the trash because

The little arm circled in red shifted up the cassette by moving the gear that the red arrow is pointing to. But it was kept on that gear by what seems to be a flimsy and minuscule tiny spring that you can see a remnant of at the tip of the green arrow. THANKS SHIMANO.

Navigating my mountain of disrepair, I just moved my pedals and wheels (swapped rotors on wheels to account for diff brakes and pads) onto my aluminum enduro frame from my carbon one to avoid this broken shifter, a poorly functioning fork, and the sram codes that I just bled.

Bike looks mean tho

lol, yes in this case it’s part of the aesthetic.

I’ve started to prop my bikes up like that for post-ride rinsing off.

Oh, how are you liking the radial tires? We sell tons, but I never bought in, mostly because my Druid claims 2.4 is max in the rear, which seems about right considering how much shit scratches back there after getting stuck in treads. Also, already had decent tires, but people here do seem to like them.

I think I like them. I may place an order with a euro site for enough pairs to get me through trump. But it is also the first time I’m running soft compound tires! The damping of the radials is something special tho. I think what has impressed me most so far is how they behave when going uphill tbh. Perhaps that’s the lack of tire insert but still incredible damping at high psi. Only 2 or 3 rides on them, but so far so good.

Unfortunately these Hayes brakes that I’ve literally never had on a ride before are squealing like banshees (do banshees squeal?). I can’t catch a dang break lately lol. Is it the plain sram rotors (but new) paired with Hayes brakes? Do I need some thicc rotors to pair with these? Stopping power is legit however.

oh ok so the literal opposite of my least favorite tire the maxxis ikon then?

I pump these up to like 30 psi before doing my fire road climb and when going uphill over big rocks in the road, the tire just goes over the rocks instead of kind of bouncing off of them and throwing off my momentum. It very much behaves like a car tire, wherein car tires seem like they’re super inflated but then conform to irregularities in the road very well at the same time.

A friend just sent me these pics of their bike…

Amazingly he didn’t crash. He noticed they felt weird as he was stopping at a red light. I let him know that it’s a bad idea to buy handlebars for an unpronounceable Amazon supplier.

As a dentist, you are probably very familiar with that supplier!

i’ll let you all in on a little-known fact. it’s actually Big Teeth that puts all of that product onto amazon in order to guarantee future business. remember how we used to give away candy at your dentist visits? well, everyone picked up on that sneaky trick pretty early on, so we’ve switched to this more dastardly and lucrative approach.
