Say it ain't so: The Assploded Bike Parts Picture Thread.

I did a quick spot check on the Adventurer 2 that I have on the rear of another bike and it seems OK, but it doesn’t get asked to do nearly as much

Good intel. I had been using them for quite a few builds during the pandemic shortages, and they seemed reliable enough for the price. If this wasn’t a one-off failure I’ll try and stay away from them now.

SQ what’s the beefy 26” rim option? I don’t really care about tubeless since there don’t appear to be many tire options. My wheel from Universal will have a Cliffhanger, but I am also looking at Rhyno Lite as a possibility?

someone’s still got to be making bullet proof for DJ bikes, right?

RhynoLite is fine, but I also had the spokes pull through mine. I kinda feel like a cargo bike rear rim is a wear item. I seem to get about 3.5k miles out of one before it cracks at the spoke holes. Euro bullitt nerd group members swear up and down that the reason my spokes are pulling through is that my tension was too high (it was high but not @heath high) so I built this newest wheel with like 10% less tension. So far so good!

Fair enough… I really need to learn how to build wheels but I dunno that it’s happening this go-round

Building wheels is p easy and i really enjoy doing it and i lack all the motivation to do it

A great way to start learning how to build wheels is by doing a straight rim swap.

Good thing I didn’t get that wheel taken all the way apart yesterday. Guess I will think on this, wonder if I can find a truing stand on marketplace

ADVENTURER2 – Alexrims

pic doesn’t show gromets and it is listed for Ebike?

did they change them?

Huh, interesting. All the ones I’ve used have eyelets which the euro nerds also claim make the rim weaker somehow.

I have never seen them without and the pics on universal still show them.

lot’s of Ebike options on their site that might be good for cargo.

I’m feeling a swell of wheelbuilding SQs building up. I’m in this purgatory where a truing stand costs as much as the wheel I just ordered but I wouldn’t feel right just ordering a new wheel every time a rim wears out lmao. Getting the tools is a chunk of change but that’s probably similar to how much labor is on getting a couple of wheels built… If we still have a wheelbuilding thread I will take this over there next

building wheels is one of my favorite things that I am probably not very good at. I have only really messed on up once.

Wheelbuilding

I still have a printout of Sheldon’s wheel building instructions that I keep in my drawer of wheel parts for easy reference.

i like BUILDING the wheels. i do not like BUYING THE STUFF for the wheels. i’m always concerned i’m going to end up with some incompatible/wrong sized thing.

Me too. With every wheel I build, I’m positive the spokes aren’t the right length right up until the tension is good.

that’s how you know you did it right.

always rhyno lite. We have lots of loaded miles on them on the tandems.
